I have a Samsung 46 " LCD that is 2.5 years old. We had 3 capacitors replaced about 2 months ago, tv clicked but wouldn't come on.Now we have a new problem. The picture will be dark for awhile and then it will look normal. Even when the picture is dark, you can watch the tv but it is very dark. The picture will change from good to dark off and on but the majority of the time, the picture is dark. Is this a backlight issue?

Thank you for the input. I have also read about a cable that usually goes bad with the T-CON decoders board. Do you see that as a problem as well or not with the symptoms that I posted? I really appreciate your help. One TV repairman totally ripped us off and I am an electrician and want to try to fix this problem my self. I paid $300 for 3 capacitors to be replaced and he was only here for 25 minutes plus the guy works for Best Buy and had a pocket full of parts from work. Live and learn.

Tries wiggling and shakes the cable that is connect to the T-CON decoders board. If the problems happen in and out ,than is the cable connected to the boad. Not,than it the board itself.

The TV was dark for 4 hours and then it came back to normal for the last 2 hours of the evening. Early this morning, I turned it on hoping it would be ok for football. To my surprise, the tv has a great picture and I have been affraid to turn it off. Is this still a symptom of a bad / faulty T CON decoders board ? Do they eventually go totally out and it is a gradual decline? Looking to try to minimize my cost of repairs, been ripped off on this tv as stated previously.

This T-CON decoder board have problems as i stated earlier. It will still work in and out.Evenually,it will be dead.Than,it will be dark for good.

Hi, the motherboard could have been affected. Since you have ever replaced the power supply, its better you get a new motherboard.

I bought my 46" samsung

The Capacitors on the Main Power PCB are failing which is why it's taking 3 attempts for them to charge before the TV will switch on.

These could be replaced for a few $ if you know someone with the technical ability and equipment.

Failing this it would require a new PCB at around $120 + fitting.

Call Samung customer service, they are doing this repair for free. I had the same problem at 11 months, they replaced the power supply board under warranty. At 2 years I had the exact same problem again and this time they replaced 2 - 50 cent capacitors on the power supply board. It took the repair man less than an hour and he had the replacement capacitors on hand. The original board and the replacement board they gave me had capacitors that were faulty. Hopefully these new capacitors will last. I have to say that I was thinking (no more samsung products for me) but I got excellent customer service and they admit that they had a faulty product and they accepted responsibility.

My Samsung 46 LCD clicks on and off and will not come on.

Hello,

First check the warranty, some Samsung units have 3 year warranty. If the unit is not covered under warranty then you will need to either repair or place the power supply board. If you want to do the repair yourself then go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/capacitors.htm and look over the pictures and information. Then open your TV and get to the power supply board, after unplugging the unit. Look for the parts called capacitors that are bulging like the pictures on our site. You will need to unsolder and replace them, then your TV should be back alive again. The values that you will need to get are going to be marked on the sides of the ones you take out. Our page will have details about this. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $45 plus shipping. Contact us at [email protected] for more information.

1. It is not a two years old TV, but a 9 years old one.
2. The common problem of the symptoms is a defective main power supply, you may check to see that are there anny "Pup-Up" electrolytic capacitor on the power supply, if there is any, replace them, you may fix up the TV

46" SAMSUNG IS NOISY AND SOUNDS LIKE A AIRPLANE WHEN TURNED ON

Most high voltage electronic parts in a tube style television only have a life of 1-3 years. All of your internal parts are due to burn out or fail.

I would give up and sell/give away this tv and buy a new LCD or Plasma version. Repairing and old tube style tv is probably going to cost over 500 dollars. Just put that money to a nice new one instead. I know it sucks to say goodbuy to your old friend, but the era of the tube tv has ended.
