My dryer will not start when I push down on the dial. There is power to the dryer. When I turn the dial on to the timer, I can here the ticking sound, so the timer is working, but it wont start when I press to start. I own a PYE/G4500 IntelliDry. Help. I have tons of laundry

I agree, always cut your losses, dryers are not that expensive. When my home aids break I LOOK To buy new ones now. I figure that once they start breaking they will carry on doing so

Electric or gas dryer?
Depending on where the ticking sound is coming from, without more specific information, many dryers use a timer within their dial for timed drying. If the switches are malfunctioning, the ticking of the "timer" can still continue.
If you can hear a whirring sound, which would be the motor, then it may be the drive belt. If this is the case, then the ticking of the timer may be more noticeable due to it being quieter without the spinning drum.

If you have a gas dryer and the ticking is from below, then it may be the ignitor that's faulty. However, that shouldn't cause your dryer not to turn on. It that case the dryer would spin, but not get warm.

first make sure you have power to the dryer.if you have power to the dryer than put your ear to the timer and see if you hear the timer running.if the timer is running than you nead to unplug the dryer and pull the dryer away from the wall so you can remove the vent hose and the back panal and the power cord cover.next look down and to the left and you will see a white plastic thermal fuse.remove the wires from the fuse and use a meter to see if the fuse is closed.if it is not replace the fuse and replace the back and power cord cover.plug the dryer in and check unit out.

You are probably hearing the timer count down, which means the timer is working right. This sounds more like your start switch is out. Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse.The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Your dryers timer contacts have fused to gether.
The only repair is to replace the timer.
