The brush on my vaccum stopped rotating, we replaced the belt thinking that could be the problem. It seems that the belt is working fine and the brush will not rotate even manually- what can I do to get it going again?

Remove the brush from the machine and clean as best you can. At each end of the brush there is a plastic clip that holds it into the vacuum. Add some WD40 between the clip and the brush and turn the clip around the brush until it moves freely. Do this for both ends. Reassemble making sure the belt is properly installed.

The belt may look fine but could have lost elasticity. Stretch belts will lose elasticity and should be replaced at least once or twice per year. If the brush strips are worn or frayed it will not pick up properly.

I don't know what model you own, but all the models I owned did have a driving belt for the brushes. Usually situated at the bottom and can be accessed by removing the screws from the bottom cover. Hope this helps!

My rotating brushes have stopped rotating

Almost certainly you have broken a drive belt. It is not a big deal though just turn it upside down and remove the base plate you should be able to access the belt from there. You should be able to get a belt pretty easy from an online retailer like vacuumspot

When i use the vaccum, it smells like burning rubber. I know this is probably a belt issue, but will a replacement belt solve the problem? If so what belt and where can i find it?

I would first check to see that the brush is not stuck. Remove any hair, or foreign objects that could possibly stop the brush from rotating. Some machines have latches to remove the plate for access to the belt and others have a couple of screws. Yes I suggest that you replace the belt. Good Luck

Brush roll belt stops turning when in position to vacuum. Does turn when vacuum is turned onto side. Belt is in tact, brush roll is fine. What's going on?

I think I know what the problem is with your machine. It's a rather lengthy repair, and I'll be happy to photograph it for you (like I do on most of my Fixya answers), but I'd like to know before doing all of that if you still need help, or if you've already fixed it.

Thanks,

take the vacuum head off the end of the tube , turn the machine and place your hand over the end of the tube
if it sucks your hand onto the tube , the machine is working as a vacuum machine
then check fro a blockage in the elbow section near the head
if there is no vacuum , junk it and get a new one

Beaters stop when vaccuming rug...didn't when new

I believe you need to change the belt that drives the brushes. When it gets stretched out, it will just spin on the axle of the motor or spin on the brush and smoke.

Vibrates very loudly when brush starts spinning

take out screws on bottom and see if tension bar can be tightened, make sure the right belt is in there, also if belt looks worn or gouged replace with a new belt

Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

Brush won't spin when position of handle changes

The belt for this machine is very specific and only one size fits. It is not uncommon for vac shops to sell the wrong belt because the proper belt is not available from normal supply houses, so they will substitute something they think will work.

Also, assuming you do have the right belt, check the tension arm that drops down on the v-belt when the handle is brought back. This arm has a wheel/bearing with a plastic "tire" or trim that rolls on the belt to tighten it. Sometimes, this tire cracks and falls off and then the remaining bearing won't have the necessary tension to tighten up the belt.
