Recently had to upgrade my Direct TV box to an HDbox and now my standard television has a series of small white lined across the top of the picture. This does not happen with all shows or commercials, it only happens with some programs. I have tried the different formats on my DTV control, but nothing helps.

It is due to the higher video level from your set top box. It may have a higher video level than the tv can accept. Try to reduce the level by capacitor resistor[R-C] network in series with video input cable.

try re-botting your HDbox,also refit your scart lead to your box & t.v. If you drop me an e-mail I will go through how to re-bot your box,if you don't know - re-botting your box helps pull in all the new software for your box - think it like a pc needing to update the programmes. e-mail [email protected].
If your tv does not have the standard 3 plug video ports ( Yellow, White, Red ) then you will need an RF modulator to step in between the Direct TV box and the tv on the cable line. RadioShack sells them as well as many other places. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103095
Hi I had the same problem. Broken white lines across the top of the screen. This is called overscan. You need to go into the Setup menu, other settings. 16:9 overscan needs to be on. Hope this helps.It solved our problem.
