All i have to say, is the drive is dead! the drop has damadged the internals and it will cost thousands to recover the data off the drive. If you dont want to spend loads on recovering the data, you could put the drive in a zip-lok bag and put it in the freezer for about 2 hours, then remove the drive and see if the drive is detected, if it is quickly copy all your data onto another 1tb drive and hope for the best, if its still not detected you out of luck i guess.

My mobile hard drive lacie rugged crashed, doesn't show on laptop or iMac and i need to recover my data stored in it

You may need to send it out to a data recovery lab. Before that try a remote access data recovery service like http://FreeDataRecovery.us

They operate an online data recovery service via the internet and also offer do-it-yourself data recovery assistance.

Hello,

Thanks for providing a great description of your drive and sounds. It sounds like your drive is suffering from the dreaded click of death. This happens for a few reasons the most common of which is a head failure. This would seem most likely as heads can easily crash if the drive is bumped or dropped while running.

To fix this issue you will require a professional lab with a clean room to open the drive and transplant a new head assembly into the device. This procedure generally runs anywhere from $1200-$1500 depending on the model of hard drive inside the LaCie enclosure.

I am a data recovery technician and can recommend a lab near you if you decide the data on the drive is worth the cost of recovery, if not I would simply recommend purchasing a new drive and always keeping your data on a minimum of 2 places/drives preferably 3 places so failures like this never cost you more than the price of a new drive.

If you decide to attempt a recovery, simply reply to this answer with your lacie model information and location(Country, State, City) and I will refer you to a nearby facility with a clean room.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

My lacie hard drive fell a few minutes ago. It now takes a really long time to load up and open files. It also keeps making a clicking sound what could be the problem and whats the solution

It sounds like you have damaged the drive.

The clicking sound is a mechanical failure where the the read arm inside the drive is hitting the magnetic platters. You should backup your data immediately as drive failure is imminent.

The drive is making a funny clicking noise. Imac doesn't see the drive.

The funny clicking noise you are hearing is usually from a mechanical failure within the hard drive. The drive will need to be replaced at this point. If the drive is still under warranty you will want to process an RMA.

LACIE drive not visible

Unfortunatley this is the classic symptoms of a broken drive. You can try accessing the drive on DOS by using online software. (eg spinrite).

If you get your drive to work copy all the important info onto discs and format this drive.

As i repair PC's this is the most common problem. Hard drives are only guaranteed for 1 to 3 years.

To help you in future

*Defrag your hard drive every month
*Backup and format the drive every year
*And never fill up a drive over 60% ( eg never exceed 60 gig on a 100 gig drive.

These easy steps should stop a hard drive faliure and make it last around 5-10 years.

Hope this helps
