Try opening the Scan function from the computer and pull it from the MFP printer instead of being at the scanner trying to push it to the computer. Your Brother DCP 7020 would have to be on the same network and installed on the computer you are trying to use. Check your usb cable, Ethernet cable or if wireless - check the Wi-Fi connection settings (network name and correct passphrase).

Make sure you download from this
Look at the paper tray and make sure the guides are aligned properly. Most of the time, there's nothing you can do except make sure the paper stack is arranged as evenly and as tightly as possible. I've found about a .05" variation in mine that leaves room for the paper to slant.
So much for manufacturing tolerances..
unplug plug it back in, did you remove the protective cover and clean coria wire? http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/faq/faq/000000/000000/000065/faq000065_018.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=dcp7020_us
Well, I can tell you that on Microsoft's Notepad application, I changed the default font to Courier >Bold< and that seemed to help the problem for that application. Font looks like a normal font when printed on the DCP-7020 now. However this is, admittedly, a very limited solution, sort of last-ditch workaround. Haven't noticed the problem particularly with web pages. You might also try looking at the "Text" option. That helps sometimes..
when do you get this error, when scanning ,printing? are you on a network? have you tried to unplug the printer and plug it back in and have you rebooted your pc if thats what your using to print from?
