When Plasma TVs have sound but no picture, it's usually the Y Buffers or the Y Main board. If it's under warranty, take it in for repair. If it's not, you'll need to decide if you want to work on it yourself or take it to someone who will repair it. Good luck!

how do you work on it yourself

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2011

If you are tech savvy, you can open the unit and test the parts.. but if you don't know how to do this safely, you probably shouldn't attempt it. It is very dangerous to work on TV's without the proper knowledge and experience.

On this TV bad Y sustain buffers do NOT usually lead to lack of picture.

For details see the link below (different TV, but same effect):
http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2010/10/vertical-or-horizontal-color-lines-in.html

Lack of picture is usually caused by bad YSUS (80%) or bad ZSUS (20%).

Most of the time when ZSUS fails it does not result in complete lack of picture, but only very dark, grainy and bleeding picture. Other times, though, it can be completely blank too, so do not take it for granted.

Both YSUS and ZSUS will fail relatively soon after each other. That is not because failure of one constitutes failure of the other, but because they both work shoulder to shoulder and wear out relatively evenly. Much like two car tires.

So if they both started working together they will wear out evenly and be near the end of their life cycles together.

It's rarely at the exact same time, but it's close.

And you very rarely have to replace/service both at the same time. It's just recommended due to the above reasons and the inconvenience of having to open the TV twice and wait for replacement/service twice.

SOURCE: viore 42 inch tv PD42Vh80 had no sound but great picture HDTV

speakers switched off?
volume on set or a box down or muted? check both the set and box.

Does the set have normal sound when playing a DVD etc via the audio and video jacks on the rear or side?

SOURCE: viore 42" plasma has picture but no sound

check first at the sound set up menu might set to off. if the settings is ok and the speaker is also good, the cause is either bad amplifier circuit or sound processor at the main board. at this time you will need a trouble shooting.

My Viore 42" LCD HDTV's HDMI inputs currently make the TV's picture signal intermittent when reading a signal from my comcast cable box and a few functions of my PS3. How can I fix this?

You might need a firmware upgrade. If there isn't one, then you might have a defective main board, or your set is not 100% compatible with your other items.

Hi , was watching my 42 inch VIORE Plasma TV last night, when I heard a click noise and the picture went immediately but the sound remained fine, I could switch channels but no picture, would you have any...

Check high voltage circuit. This is near where the 120 volt cord is plugged in and a high voltage transformer, where there should be capacitor (or two). Check the voltage - should be 390 to 400 volts. If not less than 390, near to replace the capacitor.
