Color display problem

I have a 4500S Dell and recently loaded Windows XP Pro onto it. It has come up with a problem with the color display that I do not understand or know what to do to solve the problem.

The color grid displays on 4 colors and says it is the max setting if you go to the settings box for the display unit. It had fine color before that happened. Could XP Pro have caused this problem and how does it get fixed?

Jim

Seen this problem numerous times firstly you have to install your graphics accelerator driver and restart you system if that does not work then you will have to re install you windows operating system maybe even install a different version if you have one and then update to the one you wish to use. this problem is caused by you os not being able to recognise the graphics interface chip on your motherboard but try above and you problems will be solved. thanks

You need to download and install the video drivers for it. Look in the device manager and you should see a bunch of yellow exclamation points. That means the drivers are missing.

Go to support.dell.com and put in your service tag and then find the drivers you need.

This is the direct link to the drivers for your model.

Open Personalization by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Personalization.

Click Window Color and Appearance.

Under Window Color and Appearance, click the color you want, and then click OK.

Note

If you see the Appearance Settings dialog box instead of the Window Color and Appearance

window, the theme might not be set to Windows Vista, the color scheme might not be set to Windows Aero, or the computer might not meet the minimum hardware requirements for running Windows Aero. For more information, see Troubleshoot problems with Windows Aero.

hope this helps

How to disable the Windows XP Splash Screen / logo at startup ?
To disable the Windows XP splash screen (logo) at startup, and to see the list of drivers loading at startup, follow these steps:
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG
Click the Boot.ini tab
Under Operating Systems section, select the appropriate entry and then enable the /SOS switch in the Boot Options section below
Click OK and close MSCONFIG utility.
The corresponding entry in the Boot.ini file is automatically added. Example given below:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
becomes
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /sos
The /sos parameter displays the names of the drivers as they load during the boot process. Use when startup fails (while loading drivers) to determine which driver is failing to load. See Boot Parameter Reference for more information.
Also see /noguiboot parameter, which can also disable the splash screen.

When I start up my MacBook Pro the display colors are all messed up (it it is only using 32 colors). I recently installed Windows XP using Bootcamp. If I start it up in Windows, the display colors are...

It is likely that some program has grabbed (allocated) a good part of the color table. This used to be a problem with 256-color color tables--be sure you are set to millions of colors--Windows could be changing this. Try starting up with the shift key down (safe boot) and if this works, you will need to turn off some program that are being started up automatically. You may need to go to Terminal and look for the resource file ".bashrc" or ".cshrc" (pronounced sea-shark), which could be starting other programs, although I didn't find one on my machine just now. Use the "ls -a" command to list all including the hidden ones beginning with period. I use non-hidden files when I invoke certain Unix programs, just use ". program-name" in the bash shell, with no quotes, of course.
