If your garage door is up, and you break the beam (by walking through it, for example), you will get the "SENSOR WIRING INTERMITTENT CONNECTION ERROR CODE 1-4 SEE USER MANUAL". This is normal. Both of my Liftmaster 8550 openers do this. It's misleading, but this is what I've found to cause this error.
Please do not attempt to set the tension your self. Call a garage door service Co. Broken arms and fingers result. It is not worth the attempt. Those tension spring do all the lifting of the door and have to much torque to mess with.
Precor Error 44, Un-commanded Lift Motion
Probable Cause
1. Intermittent or bad connection in the lift position sensor(potentiometer).
2. Lift position sensor (potentiometer) is bad.
3. Lower PCA is bad.
Corrective Action
Bad or intermittent connection of the lift position sensor (potentiometer) is the most common cause of the error 44. Inspect all wiring and connections related to the lift position sensor (potentiometer). Repair or replace wiring connections as necessary.
Monitor the lift position number displayed while operating the lift in diagnostics mode. If the reading makes large changes or is erratic, the lift position sensor (potentiometer) is likely bad. Replace the lift position sensor (potentiometer) or lift motor if the lift position sensor (potentiometer) is internal to the lift motor.
If the lift moves without any command entered either manually or through a program, replace the lower PCA.
I know that that is a lift-master opener. chamberlain owns lift-master. but if its a new opener your looking for try the lift-master 3800 jack shaft opener. it features a low profile design that mounts next to the door instead of on the ceiling above the door, and also incorporates a battery backup so that you will never be locked out again.
On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the same direction as the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking may be necessary to get it just right.
