My playstation 3 will freeze up when i watch blu ray movies but games are fine. Why is this?

2. Overheating. This is less common. If your PS3 freezes and you shut it off and back on and it comes on ok, it's probably not overheating. If heat is the problem, it will freeze right away if you turn it back on right away without giving it time to cool off. If it turns on OK with no problem and doesn't immediately freeze up, the laser is your issue. If you turn it back on and it freezes right away, your PS3 may be overheating.

If your PS3 is overheating, the best thing to do is to make sure you do not keep it in an enclosed area. Playstation 3 systems and XBox 360 systems run very hot. You must keep it in the open so it gets as much cool air as possible! You can also upgrade the fan inside of your Playstation 3 with the Whisper Fan which increases cooling. You need the DVD DR. cleaning disk that is made for blu-ray players...I've used my disk over 20 times now to fix drive errors in ps3 systems!

maybe it is caused by region limitation. u can try to decrypt it and convert it to mp4 for playback on your ps3.

You need a new blu-ray laser. model number kes 400aaa. takes about 30mins to change out.

just try to change auto start turn auto start off under system tools

I had the exact same problem. I found an old post somewhere that said turning off an internet connection might do the trick. So far it has done the trick for me, but I only tested on one movie. I was getting a freeze every 10 minutes. After turning off the network connection ( wireless in my case but same should apply to wired ) I had no freezes. I'm not sure if I see a pattern but I'm guessing that BD Live may be the culprit and perhaps discs without it suffer because of some bug in the PS3 software to connect or something. Just a wild guess. Looking at updates, BD Live came in on firmware update 2.2 in 3/08. I probably only upgraded recently from a much older version so there is some likelihood to this being the culprit. Don't have enough discs with BD Live to test.

i bought ps3 and it plays games ok i play a blueray and it had no colour.

Could be an overheating issue.. Is there enough air circulation around the unit? Is it possibly dusty? try and perform minor servicing (use a can of compressed air incase if there's dust causing problems)

Does this happen on regular dvd's ?
