When i turn my DMC-FX07 on it immediatly begins zooming in to maximum zoom, 3.6 times. It is unresponsive to everything but the mode select wheel and the on/off switch. I can put it in review mode but cant look at any other pictures except the very last one i took using the camara. In any mode except review the zoom bar displaying the fact that it is zoomed in to 3.6 times normal does not disappear like it usually does when i am done adjusting the zoom level. I have removed the battery, turned it on and off a couple times but nothing has changed its condition so far.
Thanks for any advice

Looks like many have reported the same issue. I don;t agree witht eh solution posted. I don;t see anything about the zoom on my LCD. No workaround seems to work. This camera is a faulty one by panasonic. Never buying a panasonic again.

The reason why the lens zooms out is because the zoom switch is faulty and might need replacing. The way to tell this is when you switch it on in camera mode you will see the zoom bar displays on the lcd and stays there.

Hi, I have a DMC-FX30. When i turn the zoom swithc it is stiff and

It sounds like you will have to have the camera repaired. You don't necessarily need to drop it, as they can malfunction on their own. Before having the device serviced, try checking out the user manual for more explanation on this issue: Panasonic DMC FX07 manual
I own one. Assuming that the camera is working normally, then I know two settings that will cause the zoom to be fixed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Suggestion No. 1:
If the zoom is fixed at the wide end:
1. Turn the mode dial to "P". Now turn on the camera. 2. Press "MENU SET". 3. Press the up arrow button. 4. Now, a menu item named "CONVERSION" should be highlighted. Press the right arrow button. 5. A sub-menu screen should now pop up, select and set "OFF".
If none of the above solve the problem, then the lens might have been knocked slightly out of position.
~If the camera has been dropped. ~If the camera has been thumped or banged. ~If while zooming, the lens was obstructed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The zoom motor also could have died, it costs about $50.00 U.S. at Panasonic.com. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My best advice would be to contact panasonic customer service.
you can download your pictures just like a normal file connect your camera to your computers usb port using the usb cable and just transfer the files to your computer...
Hey layneD, What is most likely going on is that something stuck in the lens obstructing its movement (i.e. a piece of sand), or the lens has moved out of alignment. You could try removing the batteries and waiting a minute and then reinserting them. Another option you could try is putting the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointed upwards, and then hold the shutter button down and while doing this turn the camera on. One more thing you could try is blowing compressed air into the lens to try to dislodge anything that might be stuck in the lens. If none of these options work I would have it looked at by an authorized service technician such as bringing it to a Geek Squad® precinct at a Best Buy™ store and they can send it out for service. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Allan Go Ahead. Use Us.
Solution:
Procedure for setting Digital Zoom PowerShot A520
Digital Zoom
When
the LCD monitor is on, images can be zoomed with the combined optical
and digital zoom functions as follows (figures are approximate):
5.7 times, 7.1 times, 8.9 times, 11 times, and 14 times
1. Press the <DISP.> button to turn the LCD monitor on.
2. Turn the shooting mode dial to any Shooting mode except for or .
3. In the [ (Rec.)] menu, select (Digital Zoom).
4. Select [On] using the or button and press the <MENU> button.
5. Press the zoom lever toward and hold it.
The lens will zoom to the maximum optical telephoto setting and stop. Release the lever and press it toward again to further zoom the image digitally.
Press the lever toward to zoom back out.
6. Shoot the image.
Shooting procedures are the same as for the mode.
The digital zoom cannot be used when the LCD monitor is off.
images become coarser the more they are digitally zoomed.
Since camera shake may become a factor when using the digital zoom, the use of a tripod is recommended.
Digital Zoom is disabled when the [Postcard Print Mode] is selected as a image quality setting.
I tried Option No.1 successfully when my Panasonic DMC-FZ7K froze once:
Option No1:
1. Try turning the camera on with the battery inserted.
2. Now remove the battery while the camera is on.
3. Flip the switch on the camera to off, then insert a fully charged battery. (Make sure that the battery's orientation is correct. Also make sure that the battery being used is not damaged).
4. Now flip the camera's switch to ON again. ------------------------------------------------------------ Option No. 2:
If you can open the Setup menu then the camera can be reset which might help:
Turn on the camera.
1. Press MENU SET.
2. Press the left arrow button.
3. Press the down arrow button.
4. Press the right arrow button.
5. Now, press the up arrow button several times until the menu item named RESET is highlighted. Push the right arrow button and then select and set YES when the camera asks to be reset.
