Will not generate IP address. Internet light does not come on. New modem.

Ok so the router will broadcast even without an IP from the modem. Without the IP even though your pc is talking to the router you will have no internet. The IP is assigned to the modem from your ISP "internet service provider" The router has to assume the IP then assign a mac address to the pc using the internet. A residential modem meaning your not a business is given a dynamic IP which can change at anytime the blade server wants it to. A business gets a static ip which never changes. There lies your issue. Whats happened is your modem has been assigned a new IP and the router is still trying use the old IP. So unplug your modem and router. Plug the modem back in and let it sync up. Once all the lights are back on "with exception for the "link" light plug the router back in give it a cpl minutes your internet will work again.

OK. You need to reset the modem to renew ip address from the current one.You can't reset the ip address using the router reset method.So reset or switch off the modem and then switch on it.Then new dynamic ip address will assign will be generate for your connection.Check ip address using the site Ip-Details.com before and after resetting modem...I hope you will get the answer by my reply.

what is the ip address of the cable modem ?
when connected directly to the modem can you do ipconfig in dos command window and find out the gateway ip address listed.
This has to be the gateway ip address in the wi fi router.
turn of DCHP server in the WI FI router and make its ip address one more than the cable modem ip address.
make sure subnet mask is the same in both devices
Make sure DHCP server in Modem has leases above 20 to allow other devices to use 1 - 19 .
eg 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 for cable modem ip address internally.
make wi fi router 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.0.2 depends on the ip address of modem ?
Gateway address of 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 depends on the ip address of modem ?
dhcp server leases from 10.0.0.21 to 10.0.0.254 depends on ip address of modem ?

or you can check for the ip address which your modem generates ofr that

CLICK START>>RUN>>type in CMD>>PRESS ENTER>>BLACK WINDOW POPS UP>>type in

IPCONFIG>>PRESS ENTER..LOOK FOR THE IP ADDRESS(VISTA AND WINDOWS 7) LOOK FOR IPV4 ADDRESS...TYPE THIS IN THE ADDRESS BAR OF YOUR BROWSER(ex-internet explorer)

Depending on the internet provider, most IP addresses are set for a certain amount of time before the lease on them is up, in most cases the modem automatically renews the lease and the modem keeps the same IP address. In some cases, when the lease expires, the modem receives a new IP address from your ISP's dhcp server. In rare cases, the modem does not receive an IP address due to either a failure in the hardware (of the modem, hence faulty modem, time to replace) or the firmware on the modem needs to be upgraded. To upgrade the firm ware on the modem, a call to your ISP's tech support should solve that.

First, I would try resetting the modem by unplugging for 10 seconds or so and then plugging it back in. To be on the safe side, I would also reboot computer. AFter that, I would try to see if it picks up valid ip address. If it doesn't, you may need to call your cable internet provider and perhaps get the mac address of your modem in their system (if it's not already)

I am assuming here with the way you have it set up your getting an internet connection.
what you saying i understsand mostly so i'll see if i can help you
first of all you have speedstreem modem that connects to you isp, this is assign your internet address from the isp if you paid for a static IP it would be in here, if not it's assiged by a dhcp from your isp company so if you if turn it off or have a power loss for anymore than 5-15min your ip changes.
now your modem then connects into your belkin router this as well as your modem it's prob set up as dhcp so it wants to issue each computer with an internal address of 192.168.0.X the reason for this is so it knows where to send the incomming information to what computer.
no matter what computer your using the address that goes over the internet will be the one assigned to modem from internet provider so if this need to be static IP to run your game server you will have contact your internet provider for an address.
but you may be confussing the issue a little, my suggestion to you would be:
1. go to your connections on each computer
2. right click on the lan connection choose properties
3. go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) then click properties
4. then click on obtain ip automatically and obtain dns automatically
this will remove the static windows address you may have put in.
try this and see if you can get you game or game server will work.
btw you may have to reboot your computers after this to get be sure to get the new address.
