I connected my mpc to pro tools 8.0. I 'm having a problem with playback. When i record a sound it records but when i go to add another sound to the track the sounds come back the same. For example if i start off with an 808 i would record it. But when i try to throw a high hat in there they both play back as a high hat. Could you assist me in fixing this problem?

Perhaps your computer's sound card is unable to play back at the bit rate and kHz you are recording at on your (mobile?) recorder. I'm not familiar with the RC-50 but if you are recording at 24 bit for example and your computer's sound card is only able to play back at 16 bit it may not reprosuce any sound. Usually you will get an error saying so. Have you tried different playback software?

hello. Im not too familiar with Protools (mainly because its a headache right out of the box), but MY understanding is that Protools won't recognize a lot of external audio devices. (such as behringer)
however..if you are able to record and 'see' the audio there, just not hear it, there might still be a solution, & seeing as how i never used protools, it still might just work.
First of all:
if you're using the UCA-200 external usb box connected with rca cables, then my solution SHOULD work, as it is what i did to get mine to finally do the same thing.

#1) you will need to pick up (x2) RCA-1/4 jack adapters . (radioshack, about $2 each)
#2) insert a red and white rca cable in the RIGHT side of the Mixer's CD/Tape out .....the other end of the rca cables will go into the UCA-200 INPUT.
#3) with 2 more cables in the OUTPUTs of the UCA-200, put the rca-1/4 jack adapters on both cables, insert them back into the Mixer inputs 9/10 (in the analog 1/4 instrument inputs)
#4) adjust volumes accordingly, make sure channel 9/10 isn't muted, headphone volume is up, etc..
.......if that didn't do the trick, then you will need to go into the Audio Settings menu on your computer..(or protools) and change the default playback device to your mixer (probably named Generic USB or something similar)

I really hope this helps somewhat, because i remember going through the same thing & it took a looong time to find the correct awnser.

if your awnser is A), i would suggest going into your computer's Audio Settings menu, and select the mixer as your default playback device.

Are you connecting to the laptop and using it as a midi controller? You can record midi notes from the keyboard and send them to your laptop via USB using any midi sequencer program (reason, logic, etc). Create a midi track, select the input of that track as your keyboard, then hit record to play some midi notes. To hear what you record, you have to set the output of the midi track to whatever midi sounds or instrunents you have installed on your laptop.

If you are trying to record the actual audio sound the keyboard makes, use an audio program such as cubase, sonar, audacity, pro-tools, and either mic the keyboard, or connect one of the other audio outputs (1/4" TRS) to an audio input on your DAW, and record an audio track that way (as opposed to a midi track).

Make sure you do NOT send the notes back to the MPK25, that is echo is off. If you echo them the data will be confused. This will be a setup in the Reason SW.

Check if the Mbox2 has an echo setting that echos the audio from its input. If you want the audio to loop through the PC then it will have to echo there instead. Check that in "Sound and devices" of the PC are all set to transfer via the MBox for voice and playback instead of the internal PC audio system.

It is not clear whether you are recording audio or MIDI. If you recorded Audio samples, you will get the same sounds back even if you change the voice on the keyboard.

If you record a MIDI sequence, and then play it back you will STILL get the same sounds UNLESS you also record the MIDI voice or patch changes so the voice is changed as it occured when you recorded it. Usually there are options taht you can enable or disable voice changes.

How multitrack recording works is assigning each recording to a different track. A way around this is to record the vocals to track one, then your harmony to track two. Save that as a single recording, or mixdown, then open that saved mixdown to track one. You may need to be connected to a computer to do this.

I use the same technique when using Cool Edit Pro (outdated, yes, but I've been using it for 4 years, and I know most of the ins and outs), especially on the guitar tracks, where for studio sound, you've gotta use 4 total tracks. Putting two tracks together frees up your processor, and uses less in the way of effects, as well.

This is a common problem with digital recording. Simply put, it takes some time to convert analog (audio) to digital and then more time to convert it back. So, your playback track goes through conversion and introduces some delay. You don't hear this because you have no zero reference. Your recorded sound goes through the A/D converter and also incurs some delay. When you play them back together, you hear the difference in time from one track to another. Most pro recording programs have some method to minimize or cancel the delay like slipping the tracks so they all start together. Pro Tools just introduced a version that automatically does this. They have always had what it called "low latency" monitoring which attempts to keep the "shortest" digital/analog path so overdubs are close enough that we don't hear any issues. So, since you talk about the mixer but not the recording program, I can't tell you specifics but I'd look into the recording program for time alignment settings and options. If you have a manual for the recording program, try to look up latency.

You have to discover the receive channel for the dtxpress. Try downloading Midiox which is a freeware app that actively displays everything that is happening midiwise in real time.

Read the manual. I think you'll find that you've recorded them as sound bytes instead of full recordings. If that don't work get in touch with Akai.com. You paid good money for the machine and YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER.
