Brand new Intermatic timer for pool, but it will not trip the pool ON...It does trip the pool OFF only??????

So you can turn the pool timer off using manual override.

The center dial is also turning.

These 2 things mean the timer is working fine, but you forgot to put the OFF tripper pins on the dial.

Brand new Intermatic timer for pool, but it will - 5def96a.jpg Picture shows Off tripper coming in contact with lever that clicks lights on and off. The lever is connected the manual override. So if manual override is working, then the lever is working.
The ON and Off trippers are different color

I am using the "off" and the "on" trippers and I know which one is which...They are clearly marked. The manual over works just fine, but I need the timer to turn the pool off and on when I am not available to do it manually. The timer shuts the pool off, but is not turning it on unless I use the manual switch. So...back to square one........

    Hi Gino!

You're a genius to give me the wiring tips! I have pinned my boyfriend to find answers by "nagging" and it seems he came up with the exact answer you gave as being the possible problem. (AFTER asking and pestering hin for six weeks!) See, sometimes it just pays to be a nag :) (Never thought I would be able to say such a thing...One never knows!) Thank you so much for your help. I have a day off tomorrow and I think I will fix the timer wiring as you have described and get the job done myself. That's one way to keep him on top of things from now on.

Intermittent Intermatic Pool Timer T40003RT3 The pool timer is 220v but only one 110v 20amp breaker in the breaker box to the pool equipment and when it is off the pump will not run in manual mode.

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Intermatic-control-centers.html

http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-control-centers-and-manuals.html#RT3

RT3 series has T104 240 volt timer -or- T103 120 volt timer, -plus- low voltage transformer for pool light.
The circuit breaker can be used for transformer, or another outlet or nearby light etc, or it can be used for a T103 120 volt timer.
To trace the wire back to breaker box.... open you main panel and start turning off breakers one at a time and label the panel.
See if you have single breaker or double breaker supplying power to pool equipment.

Is timer the problem

I would think whatever is hooked up to the timer is bad. Not the timer itself. Disconnect/unplug the pool pump from the timer and see if the timer trips the breaker.

Pool pump breaker tripping

1) Not likely the timer is problem, unless there was fire or overheating in timer box. Use nose and eyes to inspect for signs of high heat.

2) Eliminate timer as suspect:
Move wires on timer to test if timer relays have gone bad.
Move terminal 4 to terminal 3
Move terminal 2 to terminal 1
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T104

3) Check watt rating of Hayward pump, and voltage.
1Hp motor at 240Volt draws 8 amp, and can draw 6 to 8 times that amount when starting. Up to 100 feet, should be at least 12 gauge wire and double-pole 20 amp breaker. Over 100 feet, 10 gauge wire and 30 amp double-pole breaker is best.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Color-codewire.html#motor

4) Intermatic T104 240V timer is rated 40 amps
Can safely handle 1 Hp motor without nearing heat-rating capacity of timer

5) Make sure the motor is wired correctly for 240Volts.
If motor is wired for 120, and 240 is applied, then tripped breaker can result.

Pool time switches pool on, but off does not trip off, and can't do it manual. When I push it on off, the pool pump tries to stop but continutes running. Have to use breaker box.

Model number of timer is not known.
Is this new installation? Or installation that worked before and recently stopped working?
If the manual override lever on timer does not turn Load on-off, then 1) wiring is wrong or 2) timer has gone bad or 3) pump has a short.
I suspect a short since you say the pump 'tries to stop running.'

Model 4001-ov trips the circuit breaker.

Assuming you have Paragon 4001 40 amp 120Volt timer
By-pass the timer so only pool pump is connected to breaker.
To do this, move wire from terminal 2 and connect to terminal 1.
If breaker no longer trips, then replace timer with Intermatic T101
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101
Crossover wiring: Paragon terminal 1 goes to Intermatic terminal 1.
Paragon terminal 2 to Intermatic terminal 2.
Paragon terminal 3 to Intermatic terminal A
If breaker keeps tripping after bypassing timer, then tighten wires on circuit breaker and test again.
If breaker keeps tripping, then move wires to another same-size breaker.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-circuit-breaker.html
Breakers trip when they sense overheating.
If motor is causing problem, you might need electrician to track down source of overheating.

I need a on/off trip clip for my paragon pool timer. Part X2772

It seems everybody is out of those timer clips.
Check e-bay for used clips.
Paragon is no longer making timer parts except defrost timers.
Suggest changeover to Intermatic T100 series:

My pool sweep had been doing fine. Now the new pump seems to be dragging as if it is running on half power and the sweep crawls slowly. The pump gets hot and shuts off. The pool filter pump on the left...

My opinion is that new pump is defective.

You posted under Intermatic pool timer.
The timer will not have any effect on the new pump overheating.

Insufficient wiring can cause new pump to overheat.
However if wiring is undersized, and/or if both pumps are turned ON at same time, the circuit breaker would get hot and trip.

Instead of the breaker tripping, your new pump is getting hot, and turning off.
Remember, any pump that slows down and overheats is getting damaged.
Replace the defective pump.

Changing Pool Timer

As long as you get a new timer that is 220/240v and is the same amperage or larger, you should be fine. Wiring would be the same.
