SOURCE: Freezer section is iceing up

There are 3 things that will cause a defrost free refrigerator to do this, the defrost timer, the defrost heater, or the defrost termination sensor. I would start with the timer. You will need to look the cabinet over closely. Look inside by the cold control, you are looking for a hole with a plastic screw that can only be turned one way with a flat blade screw driver, if not there look in the back, once found turn it till the compressor shuts down, if you find the drip tray full of water, you know the other two items are good, and replace the defrost timer

Most problems with side by sides frosting up is due to failure of the defrost heater in the bottom of the freezer section behind the panel inside.

My fridg and freezer is cold but not could enough the freezer wont keep food frozen. there is no ice build up, I replaced the defrost timer, and I cleaned the fan in the back what else could it be please...

Hello Nicole,

Their are a few things that couldbe causing your refrig.troubles.

1) their is ice build up in the return air vents that is not allowing air to flow correctly
you can see the air vents under the crispers in the ref.floor and can see if they
blocked with ice.

2) the freezer fan is bad and not circulating cold air into and out of the ref.

3) In addation to the defrost timer, perhaps the deforst heater and defrost thermostat are bad and frost is building up in the freezer,Do ya see frost
build up in the freezer??

The cold control needs replacing. Thats the knob with the numbers that turn the Ref OFF and ON.
What I do is call my local Appliance Parts Store with my model no. They are extremely helpful .
Get freezer and ref thermometer. Ref is probably too cold.
Freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees. Ref 33 to 35

WATER SPLASHING IN FREEZER AT ICEMAKER
THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP
AGAINST THE FILL RESERVOIR CAUSING A PARTIAL BLOCKAGE
OR BECOME CLOGGED WITH ICE.
REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK
TEMP IN FREEZER. IF TEMP IS BELOW 0 DEGREES, THATS
OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP

Only the freezer is working the bottompart wont

The cooling in the ref. section is done w/ a vent that passes air from the freezer. The adjustment maybe labeled "freezer temp". When you locate it, check w/ hand for cool airflow. Insure that it is not blocked. Set vent control @midpoint and give it 24 hrs to stableize.
P.S. If you have a defrost problem, the coil will frostup and not allow proper airflow. Check rear panel for frost build-up, and check if your freezer can keep ice cream hard. If either, leave unit off overnight w/ doors proped open, then re-check operation.

Refridgerator freezer GE

Frost is due to outside air leaking into unit. Check on back wall to see if hole for ice maker fill tube is still plugged. If not and you have no ice maker cover hole with tape. Also look for water or ice build up in bottom of freezer or ref. sections. May have a plugged drain. Let me know what you find.
