The lamp light comes on when tv is turned on and tv turns itself off....i assume it's telling me the lamp needs replacement but could it mean something else....thanks

The red light indicates the lamp has has failed to light. You might just need a new lamp. If replacing the lamp does not solve your problem then the capacitors on PWB-Power need to be replaced or the lamp ballast itself has gone bad.

when you turn TV on, watch to see if the Lamp Fan is running,if it stops when Lamp trys to light then set will not come on.which then means Lamp Fan is defective.

This kind of problem occurs when lamp becomes weak that means near to end of working life hours but still not dead nor broken.
Replacement of lamp in tv will solve your problem, lamp replacement procedure is easy and would be written in user manual.

I assume this is an LCD or SxRD projection TV... you need a lamp. The lamp's burner is worn from use and when it becomes hot, expansion occurs and the lamp extinguishes. The TV will attempt to reignite the lamp 3 times after it goes out. If successful, it will continue to operate until the burner expanded too far once again. This will repeat over and over. Eventually, the lamp will not come back on. Order a lamp and replace it. Best wishes, I hope this was helpful.

It is available in Sony Accessories Store for $200 and replacement procedure is written in instruction manual of TV.

Always buy Sony original lamp for TV and avoid aftermarket / cheap lamp for TV safety.

the lamp is simple; yet you can run into problems with this tv. be very careful replacing lamp. the plug in the tv can be damaged. (due to the design)

that lamp light is telling you that your lamp was at the end of its life span and it sounds like the bulb has failed
you would have to order a lamp and replace it to restore pic
although model and brand would have been nice
but this is the problem with most DLP sets
the lamp is estimated to last 5000 to 7000 hrs

The first time my lamp needed replaced, the red light came on as well. This time my tv did the same thing, but after talking to my tv repair man he thought it was the lamp. He said that if you use your tv often then the lamp probaly needs to be changed after two or three years. I replacedmy bulb and it corrected the problem and I MUCH BETTER PICTURE.
