Issue
When using colored paper in the all-in-one, printing or copying is slow.
Solution
This
issue is a result of the automatic paper type sensor misreading the
colored paper as photo paper. The print out takes longer because the
unit is printing in Best mode instead of Normal mode.
Follow
the steps below to temporarily change the Automatic Paper Type setting
from within the application that you are printing from.
Click
File
, then
Print
or
Print Setup
.
Select the appropriate all-in-one from the drop-down list and click
Properties
.
Click the
Paper/Quality
tab and under
Type is:
select
Plain Paper
.
Changes
made within the application might not be permanent and the setting will
default back to Automatic after closing the application. The setting
will have to be changed each time colored paper is used in the
all-in-one.
Follow the steps below to change the default Automatic Paper Type setting to plain paper.
NOTE:
By
following the steps below, the default Automatic Paper Type setting
will be changed to Plain Paper. In order to use a different paper type
in the all-in-one (e.g., photo paper), the setting will have to be
temporarily changed to reflect the new paper type.
Click
Start
, point to
Settings
, and then click
Control Panel
.
Double-click
Printers and Faxes
.
Right-click the appropriate all-in-one, and then click
Printing Preferences
.
Click the
Paper/Quality
tab and under
Type is:
select
Plain Paper
.
This sets the default paper type setting to Plain Paper.

The answer to the question completely rests upon the user's requirements.
Some points that can help clarify this confusion is as follows:
·The major point of difference between the 2 is that Canon primarily deals in LaserJet printers whereas HP specializes in InkJet. Initially, they had a treaty not to intervene in each other's domain, although this is no longer valid. If you want an InkJet printer, your ideal choice should be HP, but if you are seeking a LaserJet printer go with Canon.
·Another point that needs to be mentioned is the scan and print quality. Based on researching various models, it has been found that the copies made from HP printers had a smoother texture as compared to copies made from Canon printers. The scan quality of both brands is quite impressive.
·The average printing speed of the Canon printer is 7.7 pages per minute whereas that of HP printers is 8.6.
·The average cost per page for Canon is 8.3 cents per page and HP is 9.2 cents per page.
·Some other things to keep in mind before making a choice is the initial cost, printing cost, specifications, and features. So after narrowing it down to what you want in a printer, you could choose between the 2. Both the printer brands are equally good and are considered among the top printer brands across the globe; it just depends on what you seek in a printer that makes one preferable to another.
Ok,if it is slow printing on faxing, than it depence from the sender or from network. But if prints sloly when you copy than try to make it faster on manu display,or try to open it and maybe is some peace of paper left inside and blocking it.
Bar is going bad cause there is a problem with the track that its on or a problem with the board making it think it went the whole way. Its more expensive to have it fixed at a shop then to just buy a new one.
And I have exactly the same problem too that has happened in the last few weeks.
I've tried reinstalling the software/drivers and resetting the printer to factory settings but no joy. An upgrade either windows or HP must have caused this!
Your only problem here is that you own a HP inkjet printer. This printer uses up both cartridges even if you print in black. Donate this thing and get you a Brother laser printer that just prints in black. This will cost less to operate per page and uses less energy.
I understand your situation, however let me explain you that whenever you try to make a copy or print, yellow cartridge takes part and provides its color in all the aspects. Please do check that you use the HP ink cartridges and try to clean the cartridges for every 15 days as this may reduce the issues of colors.
It is a cartridge problem. Solution for my hp 3645 (I have the same story as bb18, but different printer) was to remove color cartridge! The printer is fast now, of course it does not print in color :) (I`m waiting for a new color cartridge) Good luck, Marcin
