My pc (gt5676) will not turn on at all. i was looking to purchase a new power supply, but want to get one that is not through gateway. i opened the tower and found atx-300-12eb3. my question is; is their another power supply that can be used to replace this one that could be purchased on a more trusting sight like new egg or fry's? Thanks for any help on this matter, PS

The power supply should be a standard unit. There is the odd one that has special connectors or mount holes but those aren't as common as they used to be. You should be able to get any 300 watt or larger ATX power supply and drop it in. All you need to do is make sure you get the same watt rating or larger. So you could go with a 350, 500 etc. The larger the power supply rating the more connectors it will have.As long as you have the right connectors for the motherboard cpu and then enough for all of your drives and video card or other devices then you are good to go.

The best thing you can do is take the old one out and take it with you. That way you or someone at the store can check that you have the right new power supply.

How do I know if the power supply is bad on gateway gt5676 computer? I push power button and nothing happens. I unplug it and the green light flashes on the power supply( Bestec ATX 300 12 EB3). Plug it...

u can buy power supply testers, just a device you plug the power supply into, or try a new power supply. but if nothing is happening no fans etc theres a good chance its just the power supply.

Power supply replacement

This power supply should work out fine for you if you haven't added a graphics card. It's very popular and pretty inexpensive:

Gateway 5676 / loud fan how to access innards to clean with canned air?

First turn off the computer and unplug all of the cables from the back (and front ports). Then remove the two large screws that hold the left side panel in place. These are on the back of the computer. (One is even with the power supply; the other is in line with the expansion slots). Then slide the left panel back about 1/2" and pull it away from the computer. Now you can clean inside the computer.

For pictures of where the thumbscrews are, see http://support.gateway.com/s/CASES/GERSHWIN/3507057Rfaq2.shtml .

Remember to ground yourself to the computer by touching a metal part of the case when you move around the computer.

I hope this helps.

Hi. I am looking to install a new video card for my gateway gt5012 to enhance gaming. ( world of warcraft) I currently have: Chip type: Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family DAC type: Internal Display...

You need to purchase a PCI-Express video card.
Your current graphics are built into the motherboard, so you don't need to remove anything, just install the card in the PCI-E 16x slot.

Bear in mind, that you should not try to purchase a power-hungry card, as your PC's power supply is only rated at 300W. Also you will need to make sure that - if the card needs a special power connection plugged directly into it - there exists a lead coming out of your power supply with suitable connector.

Summing up, you'll need to open your case to look for the extra power lead for graphics card, and shop for a card that either accepts the power connector you have, or does not need additional power.

Is it powering off, or is the display just going black? Check to see if the keyboard is still active - can you see the Caps Lock light go on/off as you toggle the key?

Sounds like there may be more than one problem, so first let's make sure you shut the computer down completely:

1) Press and HOLD the power button on the computer tower until it goes completely dark. A single press often puts the computer in sleep mode, so holding the key for approximately 5 seconds usually forces a power off. After doing that, If you're still not sure if it powered off, unplug the AC power cord from the back of the computer tower for a few seconds and plug it back in. Now, make sure all other cables (monitor, keyboard, mouse) or wireless USB adapters for keyboard and mouse are securely plugged in where they are supposed to be.
2) Press the power button on the computer tower briefly to turn it back on.
3) Everything may be working now, but if not:
a) Monitor still dark? Make sure the monitor is on and plugged in, also, there is often an input source button on the bezel of the monitor to toggle between input sources (such as VGA, DVI and even HDMI). Press and wait a few seconds for a picture, repeat slowly at least 3 times.
b) Keyboard or mouse still not working? If wireless, make sure they have fresh batteries and that the wireless USB adapter is plugged into a USB port firmly. If wired, make sure the cables are plugged in firmly into the correct places on the back of the computer.

If all that fails, your new computer may be faulty and need to be returned to where you purchased it.
