Need details... What's not working? The unit doesn't boot up or you can't route because it says your map files are expired?
If it says your map file are expired, you will have to call Ray Allen @ RM Tech Support at 877-446-4863 and have them email you a new navigation.lic file.
It goes in the navi/user folder and reboot. reconnect to computer and delete the bin and layout folders, reboot, reconnect to dock and update it via the TND Dock software.
If that does not work, they will have to send you an SD memory card with a new program on it to install into the TND 500. This will erase EVERYTHING and restore to an "out of the box" condition.

The download did not go correctly. You have a unit that is missing or has incomplete files. Contact Rand Support and they will send you an update card. It will not delete your user data and it will upgrade you to the current version and with new maps. Be sure to have the serial number off the back of the TND (bottom right) handy.

    Thanks

Rand McNally has amazingly improved their customer support. Call 800-333-0136. They will try to fix the problem or issue you RMA if your unit is still under warranty.

GPS works sometimes. Other times it wont and has a slash thru the navigation icon. Bad GPS signal??? Software need updated???

You didn't say what brand of GPS system you had, but this explanation should work for you anyway.

My GPS system is a Garmin, and when I see the symptoms you describe, it most likely means that I need to update my maps. But It could also mean that I'm not receiving a good GPS signal due to tall buildings surrounding me, or being out in the country at the bottom of a steep hill. I'd suggest going to your GPS' manufacturer online and see if you can download another user manual for your model, then check inside it to see what those signals mean. When updated, your GPS system should be perfect again, but you'll need to update (by connecting your GPS system to your computer so you can download the updates into your GPS) sometimes once every couple of weeks if updates are made, or new maps are created because of detours and and road closures, etc.. Unfortunately companies sometimes let you know when there are new changes available to their customers.

Its an easy fix and takes very little time. Best Wishes!

How do you update your gps...my model is Garmin 205. I went to the Garmin site and the price is $65. Will they send me a new unit? I see no where on the GPS where I would add any kind of cord or anything...

Hello lelinda..... they update your software electronically. In other words, all of your maps are updated via a download using your present GPS and your computer.

The only problem I have with doing that is that your GPS is still not under warranty. Before you spend this $65, consider just getting a new GPS and putting the old one up for sale on ebay or craig's list. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Error when downloading map updates

Try using a different website where you can download the maps for free. These should work. If they don't, you might need a software update from the same web site before getting more maps: www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00401-20

Map update offer from Garmin to new purchasers-difficulty downloading

download into your computer and save in your documents. Then hook your GPS into the computer and it should automatically start to download the new maps. Hope it works, that is what I had to do. Good luck
