The bad news is most likely you will not be able to. If the specification for the device is a max 4x speed it most likely won't even be able to use the 8X media you have. You have to match the media to the device. All the specification data I find on the device indicates it writes double layer disk at max speed of 4X. It will write single layer disk at 8X.

Ok again im missing the network cable for my mad dog external drive. but i do not know what it looks like please help

It's an USB cable- usually you can use one like connects to a printer- but sometimes it would use the mini usb connector like cellphones and portable hard drives use- unfortunately the only information I was able to dig referred to an old (2004 era) CNET review

Do you have Windows XP? If so XP does not burn DVD's on its own it requires third party software.
A simple Google search will find free software for you.
I personaly like burn4free it can be found here.

MadDog MD-16XDVD9 could not perform end of disc-at-once

Have you tried checking your basics ?
Firmware ?
ASPI ?
Disk Defrag ?
IDE location ?
Jumper settings ?
What type of media are you using ?
What programs are you using ?
Exactly where are you and what are you doing when your error occurs.
What are your PC's specs ?
Do you have any Roxio products installed on your PC ?
Please answer ALL of the above - if you don't know, say so, don't make something

Writes to 8x dvds but not 16x dvds. Why?

It could be lower quality media that the drive does not like for 16x writing. I would try a higher quality blank DVD. It could also be the software you are using. I recommend imgburn from http://www.imgburn.com/ which is a great little free app. This program is a very no nonsense burning app without the bloat of most other programs.

If you buy a single or 5 pack of high end media and use imgburn yet it still will not burn at 16x speeds I would contact Mad Dog as you may have a bad drive.
