Make sure the plug is securely plugged into the wall.
Next, remove and reattach any mixing arms etc that may be attached to the mixer. Having one not attached properly can result in a start, start.
If problem persistes make sure the speed is reset.
If problem continues, here is an excerpt from the user manual found here.
http://www.cuisinart.com/share/pdf/manuals/sm-55.pdfProblem: Your stand mixer has an
overload protection device and if
overloaded, it will shut down to protect
the motor.
Solution: In the unlikely even that this
happens:
• Turn off and unplug the unit.
• Reduce the load by removing some of
the ingredients, and allow the mixer to
stand for a few minutes.
Plug in and reset the speed. If the
stand mixer does not start when you
press the on button, allow the unit to
stand for additional time.
If you are still having trouble, the product comes with a 3 year limited warranty, so if you're bought it within the last 3 years it may be covered.
Good Luck!
Traced the circuit on the board for days to find the problem. If you have an original unit you have a optocoupler on the board made by Sharp PC817b. It has died. The refurbished units now use a Sharp PC817c which is higher rated. You can order the higher rated unit online and replace it with some decent soldering skills. Verify by testing the diode across pins 1 and 2. Make note of the orientation of the chip on the board and replace. Be careful to not heat the chip up to much as this will burn the diode out again. This replacement will likely void your warranty. I wasn't going to pay for shipping on this thing. So I voided away! :)
I had the same problem. I ordered some Sharp PC817c optos from ebay and replaced it which fixed the problem. A couple notes... The control board is inside the grey plastic enclosure in the vertical part of the mixer, you'll also need to take a heatsink off the control board in order to get to the opto, otherwise a very straightforward repair. Mine now works great again.
Here is what the control board looks like removed from the mixer and the heatsink removed.
I am trying to replace the relay on my SM70 mixer. Someone removed the original component so I don't have the particulars to order another. I believe it is by Omron. I am hoping that one of you folks might have an idea of what I am looking for. Thanks.
Seach for "Mikofox " here, maybe a pm would get you on track, it is quite easy if you have (de)/soldering expeirience.
