Unplug the dryer and the first thing to do is check for the presence of 220 volts at the wall outlet. If you lost one leg of the 220 volts, it is possible for your dryer to run but there will not be any heat. Once you verified there is definitely 220 volts at the wall outlet, remove the rear cover. On the lower right hand side you will see a silver canister which contains the heating element. Remove the lower two wires directly from the heating element and check this for continuity. If it is good, on the left hand side of the same canister they often install a thermal safety which may have tripped. Do the same test as with the heating element. Remove the wires and test the thermal safety for continuity. If this is good, move to the blower housing on the left side of the exhaust vent and look for a white piece of plastic which has two wires on it. Remove these two wires and check this item for continuity.

Was working and shut off. Will not start and I do not know if it has power because the inside light never worked.

These dryers are notorious for a loose blower wheel.

The thermal fuse is located to the right of the heater and is held to the side of the heater by the same screw that holds the heater element down:

Dryer works but has no heat. Voltage is good. Could it be the TCO?

I suspect that your heater strips in the dryer have burned out. Just to give you an idea, I have replaced my heater strips in my 40+ year Whirlpool dryer two additional times over the years. You will have to take the back off of the dryer after disconnection the 220V plug and examine the heater strips.

When i try to turn my dryer on, it won't start

Assuming that you have an electric dryer, check the house electrical panel dryer-circuit breaker-pair. Push both off, then on. If they immediately trip off again, then you have a dead short circuit within the dryer. If they hold on, then try the dryer--if works,ok! If it doesn't work, recheck the breakers again--if tripped, a short circuit in the dryer heater circuit is probable. The dryer drum must be removed to gain access to the heater assembly.
