FAN NOISE? It seems to be a loud fan noise, but not sure. The sound volume was set on "mute" (no sound) and the noise is still heard. When we "unplug" the TV on and off a couple of times, the buzzing noise disappears. Cannot hear it! Do you think the fan needs to be replaced? If so, is it easy to do?

When the TV is "off", we don't hear the fan running.

    Unfortunately, no warranty.

    It's 2 1/2 years old.

We unplug the TV 2-3 times waiting a few minutes each time. It's a pain doing it, but it works.

It works great all night, with NO fan noise.

  • Steve May 31, 2008

    You have a point.

I am not sure if it is the color wheel or fan noise.

Unplugging the TV 2-3 times seems to work

  • Steve May 31, 2008

I am very reluctant to fix the problem myself.

Apparently the ballast fan is a fairly common failure part. You should be able to replace it yourself. It is part number 23587527 at a cost of $36.95 and can be obtained from tritronicsinc.com

Good luck.

If the set is working many years perhaps fan shaft sleeves are worn. In this case i think it is better to replace it instead to attempt fixing it.It can continue operate without problem except the produced noise.

Sounds like the unit is running hot, making the fan run constantly....there is most likely something else involved..you have a warranty on this unit?

well..it's cooler at night, no doubt, so I'm not surprised it's better then. You do have a potential issue here with some part of your internal workings starting to fail, and running hot, hence the fan issue.

Do you feel inclined to try to do this one yourself, or are you in the market for a repair person(check the repair listings here at Fixya).

That is definitely a problem from the fan. What you can do is to call sony and check if they still cover Fan replacement for this specific mode.

PS3 Loud Fan Noise

It sounds like it needs to be cleaned, just blow some compressed air into the fan area, unless you can actually get it opened, then that would be better.
Hope this helps!

Sound problem in compaq presario c700 notebook

Go into the device manager and make sure the drivers are truly installed. Also make sure you can put the volume icon in taskbar where your time is located cause this will definitely tell you that the right drivers were installed.

Make sure if you have a volume knob on your laptop that its turned up as well. Also make sure the sound isn't muted in windows and turn it up in the volume control. If it still doesn't work then it could be a motherboard issue

Dvd10 optoma projector makes a loud noise

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same problem I had..
I had it on picture mute, for maybe 15 mins, which may not have been a good idea. While it was muted, it made a sparking sound, and then a very loud grinding noise. When turned off, the lound noise stops, and the fan continues as usual for about a minute. As soon as it's turned back on, the grinding noise is back. But the logo seemed to display ok.

I took it in for repairs, and they said they needed to replace the color wheel to fix the problem.

Loud buzzing noise from inside Jenn Air 2389G fridge

i don't know jennair specifically being from england.
however, there is often a fan inside the back panel and the noise you heard was the fan hitting ice. the reason now not heard and fridge not working may be that the ice has built up so much the fan is jammed

Loud Buzzing noise

Sounds like the fan is hitting some ice build-up. If you can access the area of the fan motor you can try a hair dryer to defrost the ice out of it.
