Question about Mastercool 67471 Evaporative Cooler Air Conditioner

Bonaire VSM65 won't start, have had a recent blackout, what to do?

VSM65 (and I assume other size models from this range) have a problem with failure of the mains filter electrolytic capacitor in on the control PCB. It is 2200 mfd 25 volt 105 degree. (Increase it to a 35volt to improve if possible?)
This exact same capacitor causes the Vulcan gas ducted heater to fail at start up on cold mornings!(unit tries to start, fails to ignite, shuts off, then keeps trying again until is warmer!)
Space is limited inside PCB module, so need to get same size cap, can get 35volt versions the same size.
Also with VSM65 fuse on PCB blown can be caused by a shorted blue ceramic HV capacitor(up on top corner of PCB)
Both the Bonaire and Vulcan seem to be a bit dodgy in this respect?!

Not sure what the problem is but if you have a (apple or Droid) smartphone you might want to search your app store for Ac/Heater Remote applications. Bonaire might even have their own. Then you can at least tell if the issue is with your remote or your appliance (for free). Best case is you can control your appliance with your smartphone.

Remotes are a pain. Can you get into the unit to see the control box? You need to see if the unit has power. If its new enough it will have some diognostic lights so you can see if it has power. Without that its hard to diognose. Unit Model number is also helpfull. if it looks like the one on this picture it will be etched into a badge on one of the corner pillars. if its a plastic unit it will be on a sticker inside the unit

Hi,from your problem it seems you either have'nt gone through your manual or you don't have one,there is a particular button you can press that makes the display blackout,i think you have mistakenly hit this button that's why the display is blackout.if you do not have the manual you can download it for free at;www.manualsonline.com,www.manualnguide.com to enable you to know this particular button.

Will not turn on after a blackout

Turn off your breakers and then back on. There are fuses located in the a/c control panel. Check them. If you aren't getting any power still, a board may have been blown during the storm.

SCREEN WON,T STAY LIT UNLESS I TOUCH IT

You are simply in blackout mode. This is so at night you aren't blinded by the glow of a screen. Here are instructions right from the manual to turn on or off.

Blackout Mode On and Off
When Blackout mode is turned on, the monitor display will turn off to
reduce power consumption.
This additional power enhances the sound quality.
1 Touch [VISUAL] on the main source screen.
The VISUAL selection screen is displayed.
2 Touch [OFF].
The backlit-display portion goes out.
3 Touch [OFF] again to cancel the display backlight.
• To make the setting, set to “Setting the VISUAL Touch Button” (page
34).
• If any button on the unit is pressed during Blackout mode, the
function will be displayed for 5 seconds to show the operation before
returning to Blackout mode.
• While the backlighting is turned off, the function indicator
