My 9300 can no longer access the MMC- attempts come back with "memory card is not ready" I *can* read the card using an adapter on a PC- and recovered the data, and have fiddled with reseating, back cover, rebooting..
It has acted up before, but reseating the MMC took care of it, then.

Since you want to format the phone you can follow this steps in doing that:
Method One Verify that your phone does not have a discharged battery. Charge phone until battery icon shows a full charge. Save all personal information to the MMC memory card. Turn off the Nokia 6600 and remove memory card. Simultaneously press the green dial key, the "*" key and the "3" key. Continue to hold those three keys while turning on the phone. Do not release the three keys until the formatting message is displayed on the screen. Wait for a few moments while the phone reformat. Once completed, the phone will be restored to fresh out-of-the-box store defaults. Reinstall personal information from the MMC memory card.
Method Two Verify that phone does not have a discharged battery. Charge phone until battery icon shows a full charge. Save all personal data to a removable memory card. Turn off phone and remove memory card. Turn on phone. When phone is fully powered up, key in the following sequence, "#7370#". Answer "Yes" when phone asks if you really want to format phone. Enter pass code "12345" when the Nokia 6600 asks for the confirmation code. Wait while phone reformat. The process may take a few minutes. Replace the memory card and restore personal data.
no there is no any master password for mmc. you need to bye a mmc eraser from electronic mkt to format your mmc or u can go to cell phone repair shop to get formatted (note: you can not retrive you data from lockd mmc)
If that doesn't work, clear all your recent calls
(Telephone-Recent Calls-Clear All)
You may also need to check your other phone memory.
Do you have a decent sized MMC card in the phone? Try moving all your pictures/music/videos etc from the phone memory to the MMC card. Use File Manager to do this.
PC suite is your best bet. If you have no joy, you can try copying all the files from the phone to the MMC card and then using a PC card reader to get the text off. It's not easy, and for me the PC considered many of the files on the card to be corrupted. DO NOT FIX ON THE PC AS IT WILL THEN BE UNREADABLE ON THE PHONE.
Try using File Manager to copy the Communicator\System\Mail folder to the MMC card and see how you get on. Take what you can get which doesn't appear corrupted!
The default security code for Nokia is 12345. You can recover the password. The best way is to download a file manager to your phone. I use Best Fileman for my N70, from http://www.smartphoneware.com/ It's for series 60and 40. The trial version should be enough, it's only £5.60 anyway. In the file manager (when installed on your phone) you'll find under- C:\System\mmcstore -the file you're looking for, you have to rename the file- mmcstore.txt -then send it to another mobile (best way) or your PC via bluetooth or USB, open it on the other phone and your password will be revealed. Rename that file- mmcstore.txt -to just- mmcstore -there might be another file named- mmcstore.txt -to view your password rename one or the other- mmcstore1.txt -one is for your phone PIN number the other your MMC card. Clear enough?
