Hello, i have an olympus e510 and have bought a compatible flash - olympus FL36. I would like to know why the control panel does not light up when the camera is on, as the E510 has communication capabilities to enable this function, as described in the instruction manual of the flash unit, page 11. This is not happening and I have to do this manually everytime I want to look at the settings, at night. Can you please clarify whether it does, or does not have this function.
Also, have any other owners of the E510 had problems with the print on the body and buttons wearing off. This happened to me within the first 5 months when I noticed this occurring.
Also, the front rubber grip on the right side of the camera has fallen off as well, and I am very particular on the care and how I look after my camera.
I was told that sweaty fingers or the constant removal of the camera from its carry bag was the problem. I use my computer every day for many hours, and the print has not faded off that. It is being repaired under warranty by a very good repairer.
Thanking you
Angela
Hey I have an E510 and an fl 36 flash unit and no problems for a year now.
And no problems at all {knock wood]!
Have you checked to see if all the flash pins are making contact?
Normally I only turn my flash on after I put it on the camera and then turn the camera off and then on again to see if everything is ok. I remember the flash would not communicate with the camera on a shoot and after a while I realized that the flash was not all the way in the hot shoe. Fool around with the flash off the camera first and see. The flash have modes that you have to set up if the mode is set in full manual that might be a problem. There is a button that you have to hold down for three seconds to get in the menu, Get hold of your manual or download one My buttons are fine and have not faded any at all. I realize that the power button an the flash is hard to press on, I do hope I was of help .GOOD LUCK
