Want to know how to undo FN Hotkeys: i.e., FN Esc. How may I reactivate screen after I put it to standby, 0r FN F1 when in Hibernate mode. Please notify how to properly activate and DEACTIVATE FN Hotkeys. The brief chart on FN Hotkeys listed in Support/Help (can't recall proper site) is not enough. Have logged onto the QuickSet Features, and this is not covered there. Please help. Thank you.

Trying using the "numlock" key it should undo the Fn hot keys. If your notebook is in hibernate state, using the power-up switch on the notebook will activate you notebook. This will ask you for a password, if you have been using one to logon to you notebook. The FN+F4 or F5 will toggle between a blank screen and a display.

How do i disable the f keys

Hi There,
After a few hours of research, it looks like the function or F keys under windows are pre-programmed and there's not a whole lot you can do to change it. There are, however, a few options:
Keymapping software: Usually ships with (and free to download) logitech or other gaming keyboards. The software allows you to reprogram any key on your keyboard to do what you want it to.
Hold down Fn+F11, while still holding F11 let go of Fn. Some laptop users have reported that this turns off Fn keys. Also, Holding down Fn+Scroll lock or Fn+Num lock in the same fashion has had varied results.

Acer Aspire 5515 Service Manual ( Free)

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go down to the second Aspire heading.
The one that starts with Aspire 1200.
Drop down to line 6, then go across to the right, and click on 5515.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
I would suggest upgrading to Adobe Reader 9 (9.3.4.) though, if this isn't the version on the computer.

After you click you may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.
The file is downloading in the background.
Usually it takes a few seconds to see the first page, and additional time to fully download.
Suggest you let the file fully download before looking through it.

This is a SERVICE MANUAL, not a User Manual. Much more detailed, including disassembly procedures.

I need an explanation as to the secondary function of the keys on my NB305. Mainly the top row of 'F' keys, but the remainder of the keyboard as well. What do all these little symbols on the keys mean?

F1 through F12 are called function keys because they execute programmed functions when pressed. Used in combination with the Fn key, keys marked with icons execute specific functions on the computer. The function executed by individual keys depends on the software you are using.

1. Sound Mute: Pressing Fn + ESC in a windows environment turns sound on or off. Press Fn + Enter to simulate Enter or the enhanced keyboard's numeric keypad. 2. Instant security: Press Fn + F1 to blank the screen to prevent others from accessing your data. To restore the screen and original setting, press any key or press the Touch Pad. 3. Power save mode: Pressing Fn + F2 changes the power save mode. 4. Standby: When you press Fn + F3, the computer enters Standby. 5. Hibernation: When you press Fn + F4, the computer enters Hibernation. 6. Display selection: Press Fn + F5 to change the active display device. Hold down Fn and press F5 again to change the device. 7. Internal LCD screen Brightness: Pressing Fn + F6 decreases the display brightness in decrements. 8. Internal LCD screen Brightness: Pressing Fn + F7 increases the display brightness in increments. 9. Wireless setting: If your computer has both Bluetooth and Wireless LAN functions, you can press Fn + F8 to select which type of wireless communication you want to use. 10. Touch Pad: Pressing Fn + F9 in a windows environment enables or disables the Touch Pad function. 11. Press Fn + F10 or Fn + F11 to access the integrated keypad. When activated, the keys with gray markings on the bottom edge become numeric keypad keys (Fn + F11) or cursor control keys (Fn + F10). The power on default for both settings is off. Press Fn + F12 (ScrLock) to lock the cursor on a specific line. The power on default is off. 12. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (reduce): To reduce the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 1 key while holding down the Fn key. (13. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (enlarge): To enlarge the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 2 key while holding down the Fn key.

Mouse locking/turning off laptop

On your laptops power management settings, you will probably find an advanced tab. In there you should be able to assign the power button to 'Shutdown', as it is probably 'Hibernate' enabled. The mouse problem is probably your laptops touch pad driver, update drivers from Hewlett Packard site if there are any.
