This hack works beautifuly for SOME DVDs but not all. I do not understand how to "select 0 by using arrow keys" - I used the numeral key on tthe remote. It then played one of the only two UK 'commercial" DVDs that I have and only some of tthe 'free giveaway' ones from the Daily Telegraph etc Thanks BarneyChess.

Apologies - I had not followed the insructions to the letter. Did exactly what was advised and it works fine now. Be careful to see that "O" is definitely selected before exiting "setup". It will be a different colour to the others.
And you will need to see the window that allows you to select it by "using the arrow keys".

Hi, you are partly correct, your region 1 player is also in NTSC format, other regions are in PAL format...... So even if you converted your player to multi region or bought a multi region player it still would not play a PAL disk which the Chinese disks would be! The only way you could do this is to buy a multi region PAL/NTSC format DVD player.
there is one soulution put a dvd that wrks in there on and go into settings and try and change the code but the website of ur dvd player says it might not have that feature and can only play the usa region dvds
all dvd players are region free when you first buy them, they set the region themselves, after 5 dvd's have been played on them. So if you had a european dvd player and played 5 USA dvd's on it , it would lock to the USA region and you would be unable to play european dvd's on it. Exactly what a friend did many years ago when he bought a load of american dvd films from someone and played them on his brand spanking new dvd player :)
DVDs are encoded with a "Region Code" to allow studios to control release dates around the world. Hong Kong Region Code is 3, UK is 2. Your player will not play back Region 2 DVDs that you are purchasing or renting in UK. It will work fine with Region Code 3 DVDs I would bet.
IF YOU LIVE IN THE USA OR CANADA THEN YOUR IN REGION 1 AND IT WILL PLAY WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING BUT IF YOU LIVE IN ANOTHER REGION OR YOUR DVD PLAYER IS FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY FOR SOME REASON THEN IT WONT PLAY.ALL DVDs MADE IN THE USA OR CANADA ARE REGION 1.
You need to unlock the player before it will play discs from other regions. UK has region 2 discs while the US has region 1.
Search on Google for your DVD model and unlock code. Dial in the code using your remote and you should then be able to play any region discs from around the world.
Region-free DVD players are sold through various venues.Try playing it in a computer DVD player/burner. Some burners are region-free. Some software can copy your purchased disks, removing the region code in the process.
what you need is the region code for your dvd player. so you can play region one and any other region dvds. what is the brand and model of your dvd player? then i can check and see if there is a hacking code for you.
Thanks BarneyChess.
