Vizio P50HDTV10A 50 in. Plasma HDTV Logo
Posted on Oct 06, 2010

My Visio 50" Plasma Model# VP504FHDTV10A was purchased in June of 2008. Recently when I try to turn it on, it makes a click sound and then the Visio emblem turns a dull amber color and the TV will not turn on. Power supply to the TV is not the problem, as I have tried various plugs in the surge protector and the wall. Sometimes when I perform a "hard restart" per the Visio Tech Support hotline (unplug the TV, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug back in and turn on TV) the TV will turn on.But just today I tried the hard restart 6 times with no luck. Finally it turned on and I am afraid to turn it off now. I think that the start capacitors are starting to fail. I want to try to replace them myself if that really is the issue, but I don't know how to diagnose. Can anyone tell me how to: 1. Diagnose the problem? 2. Where to get parts? 3. How to replace the required parts? I am mechanically inclined and have soldered before. Thanks!

I just solved this kind of problem with my VIZIO VP504FHDTV10A. It was main power supply that went bad. You need to open back panel cover and right in the middle you will see two powersupply boards(subpower board(smaller) and big main powersupply board). Just get board part/model # and search it on eBay(what I did). It was approx. $100. Good luck.

And one more thing... From what i know capasitors are not always a problem. Normally they are not dome and cost quite high. There are a lot of elements that can go bad. Even a small diode can cause a problem due to power flick or something, and to find what went bad you will have to have an expensive equipment and/or manufacturer technical documentation. The best way to test would be to measure voltage on pins 1 and 2 of P25 connector. It should be 15V. If nothing there just get a new board...

Have 2008 vizio smart tv-how do you program a new remote to the tv or tv to the remote?

Hello Mat,
Read the instruction manual that came with the remote as that has codes in it and the procedure to program the remote also. You can also look up the codes via the internet using the make and model of the remote. The listing will usually have all possible codes that might work with your Vizio tv, and you have to try them all until you find the 1 that works.
Good Luck!

Bought a Wii and using the standard cables it played great on a new 50' Panasonic Plasma as well as on our 2 year old 32' VIZIO LCD. Just upgraded to a 46' Sony LCD (W series) and the Wii looks terrible...

The Wii can display on a HDTV, but keep in mind the output is only 480p. It is not true high definition, and it will only display this using a component video cable. There shouldn't be a difference with LCD and plasma.

You will also need to go to the display settings to force the Wii to display in 480p.

Try a different input (safe to assume your Sony has multiple?) and see if it is that specific input. Also, try a different device like a DVD player or VCR and see if you get the same result.

Good luck.

Panasonic 50 inch plasma

You should call for warranty service. If the set is very new try to get it exchanged.

There are some very heavy duty power supplies and many high power matrix drivers used in Plasma sets.

The description sounds like the noises are very loud. It is normal with any of these TV sets, if you put your ear right up to the back of the set at the vent holes you will hear some noises. These would be some acoustic harmonics from the power supplies and related circuits.

I am wondering if it is possible that there is something that is becoming less stable. If the set is working very well without any failure, so-far this is a very good sign. Before it gets to be a problem, I would have this checked.

On many models of these sets, they use fans for cooling specific areas. A bad fan can cause noise.

Haier 50 inch, has power, but no screen/sound

No. Either you have in a 'video' mode (inputs) or it's a defective unit.
Bring it back to the store and let them bare the weight - sorry about your disappointing purchase. Better luck next time around.  :/

Tv making clicking noise while I am watching

Hello everyone,

I bought the model TH-50PX60U June of 2007. I've been hearing the very annoying clicking noise as well.

Since the TV has a one year warranty, I just called Panasonic and they've scheduled a tech to come over and take a look at it three days from now.

I will publish the results on the same page.

Sony FWD50PX2/S 50 in. Plasma Television power problem

It does sound like a power supply problem but that can be misleading because a problem somewhere else in the TV can be "holding down" the power supply. This can usually be determined by using some isolation techniques.
