Error message "cover door is open or printer cartridge is missing"

My hp laserjet 1018 has started giving me a message that the cover door is open or the printer cartridge is missing. However the cover is closed and the cartridge is in place. I have tried opening and reclosing the door, taking out and replacing the cartridge and restarting the computer and printer to no avail. Is there anyone who knows what I can do to fix the problem?

Try to find the latch in the cover that presses a switch to indicate it is closed it is usually a small stick projection at the sides of the cover. Replace the cartridge it should fit snuggly then try it again.

Hello !!

For tha particular error you are facing, here is the reason. These printers have a switch that triggers an interrupt when the toner door is closed. Usually there is an arm on the door that pushes the switch. It is quite sensitive and delicate. Then sometimes there is a tab on the printer's toner and if that breaks off then that error will be generated.

But in your case as you have not removed or inserted the toner, I think option 1 is applicable to you.

Now, if this printer is in warranty you should send it to HP for Free repair/replacement.

Did this just suddenly happen or was it after you replaced the toner cartridge or opened the door?
I have found that if the toner cartridge is not completly positioned into the printer, it can give this error.

You need to perform following steps:-
Open the door of toner and close it properly
take out the toner cartridge and insert as directed in manual
clean the electric contacts of cartridge and printer
otherwise you need technical assistance for repair

If you are using a non genuine HP cartridge, it is very likely it is defective and can not read the chip on the cartridge. Replace the toner with a Genuine HP cartridge.

Error says printer door is open or ink cartridge is missing. Neither one seem to be happening

Remove the ink cartridges and clean the gold contacts AND those in the printer as well as a first step. Use Isoprophyl 99% alcohol and Q-Tips.

many printer cartage /tray/cover/ and paper are connected with sencer.while one of them are not connect .printer show this message.so you should open all out of cover of printer. then blo w air by air blower, then it can be work. in practic we do this, in our workshope. thanks
