My Tom Tom blew up when plugged into car charger. Can this be fixed? About how much should I expect it to cost?

What is your charging method? In car or house hold plug? Suggest that charger is not working (Green) if light on Tom Tom (at bottom near charger lead) is not lighting. Check your charger and see if you have an indicator light on it showing it is on. If yes, plug in Tom, then press and hold the "on" button for 15 seconds constinuously. Tom Tom should reboot.

Tom Tom GPS only brings a car charger and a USB to Mini USB cable that allows you to sync with your computer. For more info on your specific unit visit the Tom Tom site. You can also download the needed interface software for your unit at their web site. The USB cable isn't very expensive if you need to replace it. And once you have it, you will be able to update maps or download and install maps for other countries and even some fun voices if your unit supports it.
Download the software you need first and then connect your TOM TOM. Follow the prompts. Install any updates and you should be okay.

Your Motorola phone charger will not work and it may even damage your GPS! In the package you have a cigarrette lighter adapter for your car - the home charger (AC-charger) you have to purchase separately.

try a reset first, i will assume you cant do this, get a clip or pin switch off the unit and remove the sd card, then push the tool into the small reset hole underneath and hold for 15 seconds, then turn your unit back on and replace the sd card, it should then work if not it could be the battery has worn out as they are attached to the charger all the time when driving, hope this helps

I expect the car has a brake safety switch which only allows the tranny to be shifted in to gear when the brake is applied. If this is not happening I expect either the switch or the solenoid it activates has failed.

make sure the light is on, on the charger unit. if not then check the lighter plug. ifplug is good then you will need to change the charger

if it is not charging in the car then the socket in the car is dead, blown fuse or defective socket..

If you had the prongs backwards, you probably blew the input diode. I don't know of anywhere other than Tom Tom for service on these.

I had the same exact problem! It should plug in to the back of the unit, but it wouldnt charge there either.

What i had to do was goto Radio Shack and buy a Universal Charger for my cigarette lighter that cost $14.00. It has multiple plugs and 'pins'. Find the right one, and set the volt/amp switch to 4 or 6 amps, whatever it says on the bottom of your TOM TOM. The person at Radio Shack helped me, they should be able to help you too!
