The temporary fix for this issue never lasts and it will soon break again. I have seen some shops charge over 100 dollars to get the TV working again, but later the part breaks off again. The threaded part that is broke is from the tuner that is on the main board.

The only real way to fix the problem you have is to purchase a new main board.

Next time use a "slip" connecter (not a threaded one) on the back of the TV for the cable connection.

that silver box is called TV tuner (see picture ) ............ but in your case that is not the problem ......... after 4 or 5 yrs (depending on usuage ) in some TVs on mainboard & CRT tube's circuit board at some soldering joints cracks develops ... then due to loose contact TV behaves as you have described ........ when you are hitting that lightly on its side then these cracks at soldering joints are getting connected temporarly & for few seconds or minutes you are getting normal picture ....... so solution is most of the soldering joints on mainboard & on CRT circuit board has to be resoldered ....... only good tv service engineer can do this without shorting joints or damaging components..... so that silver box ( TV tuner ) is not the problem because when it gets deffective then you will get picture that comes when tv is switched on ---- usually it will be blue screen ......& also if you connect dvd you will get picture normally ...only thing is that you won't get picture from cable or antenna .............. vishnuswamy_25.jpg

I have a 1999 zenith tv model # A25A74R. The point where the coaxil cable plugs into the tv is pulled out of the square silver box on the circuit board. Is there a way to repair this short of replacing...

Hello
The square silver box you refer here is its tuner. If the input socket of that tuner has broken, there is no other way to refix it. You have to replace the tuner. You can buy that box from most of the electronic sparepart shops of your town. Just unsoder it out from the board and go with it as sample. It is not a skilled work, and if you have a concept of soldering and desoldering, and have soldering iron, can do it by yoursef at home. The tuner will have a number printed or sticked on it, and it must be noted. The same number must be replaced too. OK.

Can't change TV to CATV mode

You must unplug the cable connecting the television and the cable box. Then turn the television off and then back on. Do not turn the cable box off or disconnect the cable in wire from the cable box especially if you use Cable Vision. It will take up to 20 minutes before the box comes back on. Now turn the television back on. When you access the Channel System menu, you have the access to the submenu choices. Change the Antenna option to CATV and the Current Channel to 3. Reconnect the cable box to the TV.

Also those that are having problems with the TV turning off periodically, make sure the sleep mode option does not have a number in it. For example, if the number is 10, it will turn off every 10 minutes.

Broken Antenna Port

If you have already identified where the connection was on the board you will have to access the board to be able to solder back to the points where the old connector was. Once you have identified the two solder points (One should go to ground and the other if you can with the tv on touch it and see if a picture tries to come in or get rid of the snow). Then buy a matching transformer from radio shack or Home Depot, Lowes. Normally this would go on the outside antenna. But you want to take it and clip and strip the ends that have the forks. Solder this to the board, one to ground and the other to the point that would have been center on the old broken piece. This will have a 72 ohm or a connection that your antenna will connect to.

Broken Cable Jack on c27a24t

You should take this to a service shop to have it properly repaired. They may have to order a new tuner module if the circuit board inside has been damaged.

There are safety issues with grounding and AC mains isolation with this connector.

Servicing this can have serious safety issues. Take the set to a service center if you want it repaired.

For the average TV set, the tuner module is rather expensive. It can be in the area of about $70 to $120 depending on the model. There is about 1 hour of labour involved if there are no problems to change it.

You may be lucky, and the service tech may be able to fix the connector back to the tuner case or have a way to change it.

If the set is more than about 5 years old the tuner module may no longer be available.

1996 32 inch Panasonic TV

What you are calling the "antenna module" is actually the tuner. The connector that pulled out is called the F connector. The F connector can be soldered back onto the tuner but this is a very delicate procedure and is especially difficult if any of the coils in the area of the F connector have been bent, altered or moved. The tuner itself is not too expensive and is much easier to replace than trying to replace the F connector, especially if you have never done one before. If you use this set with a cable box then simply connect AV cables from the cable box to the TV set the TV to VIDEO.
