After cleaning fingerprints off the top control panel of the TV, the remote control immediately stopped working on the TV (no on/off, channel changing, nothing). The indicator light on the remote lights up so I know its working. I replaced the batteries and did all the troubleshooting, I even replaced the remote with a universal. I must have hit something on the control panel to stop the remote from working. Help.

You're a best researcher in electronics; I should say. Whatever thing you haven't been done so far? think more about it after a "Large". Get more and more ideas. If one Large is not enough, try it after a Pint. Yet get no idea, try after a 'FULL".

Have you find out if the problem is with your remote control? For instance, you are able to control your TV using a Universal remote control. My 32" Vizio TV had a similar problem, initially thought it was related to my remote control but in fact the TV didn't respond either to an universal remote control of my SAT receiver that I eventually use to just turn on and off the TV. I've found out that the problem was with a little board on the TV located at the left down corner viewed from the front side of the TV and that receives the signal from the remote control. I found the board on ebay for about $5, replace it and the TV responded again to both original and universal remotes.

The following is based on the assumption that none of the remote control functions work even after the set is turned on, but the set can be operated normally with its front panel control buttons.
Spray a small amount of window cleaner on a soft cloth or facial tissue and use it to gently clean off the plastic window over the remote control receiver on the TV. It may be obscured by tobacco tar or a child's smeary fingerprint.
If that doesn't work, then the remote control receiver circuit needs repair.
Fault with TV remote sensor section circuit is very rare.
