From your description, I would say something is stuck inside the lens mechanism of your camera. It could be a grain of sand or any small particle like a piece of fabric from a camera bag.
Hold you camera lens facing the ground and gently - moderately tap it repeatedly. You can also try spraying a compressed air into it.
The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.
Its lens error in your DSC-W35 camera. Lens mechanism is either stuck or not retract completely and system control sense this error. Please replace lens assembly to get it fixed because lens mechanism is not repairable. Thanks.
sounds like you have dust, sand of some type stuck in the retracting lense. Ive found someone to tell me to take out my batterys and SD card, then tap the bottom of the camera on a table top. Replace the batteries and power up. Doing this, I was told it loosens up the debri for the lense to retract to close and to open again.
I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.
Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 worked great then the lens stuck in the open position.
Read on this site some one suggested gently manipulating the lens and tapping it then turning it on. It worked!!
I also dropped this camera from waist high and the lens was stuck out and would not retract or let me do anything. I ended up having it sent to Sony to replace the lens and it cost me $200. I paid $300 for the camera to begin with but to me this was the BEST camera I'd ever had and was worth it. Before repairing it, I bought a new Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 since the original one I had dropped was no longer available. I was NOT pleased with the quality of the new camera at all and it was supposed to be better than the one I dropped. That's when I decided it was worth repairing the broken one and worth the cost.
Mine is a bit different- Mine turns on to the opening "Cybershot" screen, opens and shuts about 6 times, and then says "Please shut off and then on again" or something. AAH!! Im a photographer! HELP!
