Hi if you hear knocking noise from the hard disk then it has conked off - as for the data there are service agents who claim to retrieve even from bad hard disks - search for them on the net .

My pc restarts when i invoke any programe internet explore or windows explorer.the system is windows xp sp2 with folling configuration pi845gv asrok motherboard,p4 2ghz

If the software appears to be hanging and then rebooting you most likely have bad capacitors on the motherboard. This is a pretty old board and the caps tend to dry out and this is a typical behavior. If there is a brief blue screen before it reboots I'd say just re-install windows. Also be sure to get SP3 and all the security updates. Your leaving yourself open for attack.

K7VM3

Hi,

An ASRock K7VM3.motherboard is a socket A (462) board specifically for the AMD processors. To my experience, these boards (due to age and period of usage) are prone to:
  • bulging/leaky capacitors of the high current regulators near the CPU;
  • the heatsink tends to be dislodged/misaligned causing overheated processor;
  • loose memory slots causing defective memories.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Memory Update

Hello there.

From your description is sounds like the new Memory is either faulty, or not compatible with your sytem, this explains the error messages and blue screens.

What i would suggest is to download a free program called 'memtest' that you can burn to cd and let your computer load it up before it loads Windows, this will check the memory for any errors and verify that indeed the memory is faulty.

You can find memtest here

Please try this and let us know what happens. If you only purchased the memory then you can get it replaced for free.

Hope this helps.
