Flash I broke my sisters flash, a Sunpak auto 821, on her Minolta X-370 camera. What flashes are compatible for this camera? I cannot find a Sunpak auto 821 on line. Thanks

BecRN,

take the camera to a good camera store and try any in your price range, the manual should state the camera's that are compatible. note that many new model flashes do not work on older camera's.

Can I use my Sunpak auto 555 thyristor on my Canon Rebel EOS T5? I've tried using it with mixed results. Sometimes it performs beautifully; other times it washes out the photo.

A lot of older flash units for film cameras wont work on digital cameras. Old flashes dont have compatible electronics for modern digital cameras. Flash sync is a normal issue. Try setting the camera shutter speed to 1/60 or 1/100 and try that. The trigger voltage may be too high. To use the sunpak 555 you will need the TTL connector to the multiple contact points on the hotshoe. It might be cheaper to get a remote slave for the flash and use it off camera as a small studio flash. http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Sunpak_555

Does this flash have a fuse?

There is not a fuse but there are batteries. Even rechargeable batteries go bad.

Is it compatible the Sunpak auto Zoom 344 D THYRISTOR with the Nikon D60

Yes. The trigger voltage on this Sunpak is well within the safe limits for a digital camera.

Can I use the Sunpak auto 221d dedicated for minolta on a canon dslr?

No. The flash's trigger voltage is much too high. You could use something like this to isolate the units, however you won't get any of the automatic functions.

Sunpak PZ 4000AF for Canon EOS 35mm SLR body

Canon digital uses E-TTL metering for best flash results, the older Sunpak unit isn't compatible with this, so it is not fully compatible. It may work in manual mode - but won't be as good as a more modern compatible digital flash like the Canon or Metz (eg 58AF1 Canon) versions.

My pics come out half black when I use the X-370 flash

motley45

this happens when the shutter speed is not correct. set the speed to 1/60 sec.
if the X-370 flash is new it may not be compatible with your camera. with the flash turned on it should set the shutter speed automatically to either 1/60sec or 1/125sec. looking in the finder the shutter speed should not change to various amounts of light. if the shutter speed changes with the flash turned on it is not dedicated to your camera.

Sunpak pz 4000af for minolta

Hi,

The Alpha 100 only supports pre-flash TTL and ADI flash control which are not supported by the Sunpak. The flash should ignite, but automatic controlling of its brightness is not possible.
