I purchased a panasonic inverter microwave in July 2010. Having been using since it purchase. Went to make microwave popcorn the other night ( have made popcorn in the past in this microwave) , used the "popcorn" button, set the bag inside, & turned on microwave. I stepped away from the microwave to do something else & on return smelled burning. The microwave did not turn off, burnt the popcorn black & filled the kitchen with smoke. I am reluctant to use the microwave for fear of a repeat occurance.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Accuwave wont heat

Hi, there are three issues that will cause a no heat situation in a microwave. these issue are a failed Magnetron, busted cut-off fuse and, failed diode.

I recommend checking all these area that are located inside the microwave for faults.

The most common issue will be a failed Magnetron.

The diode and, fuse will be located on the noise filter assembly.

SOURCE: We can't get our microwave to fully pop the bag of

Always place the bag of popcorn on an upside-down paper plate.

This allows more microwaves to penetrate the bag from the bottom.

Also always place food of any kind in the microwave off-center on the tray, NOT in the middle of the tray.

Not only does it cook more evenly (think of how you stir liquid) but it also prevent the same spot from being heated repeatedly on the glass turntable, which can lead to overheating and breakage.

I purchased a panasonic nnsd797s inverter microwave in Febr 2010. The turntable appears to have been the source of noises for the past few months. It quited down for a while, but is not louder than ever...

The turntable motors cannot be lubricated, only replaced. The popping noises you mention, is that from the motor or from the microwave arcing??? Unplug the turntable motor and put a cup of water into the unit and run it for a little bit and listen, if it is stil popping you may have other issues.
tip

Panasonic error codes h97 h98

If it is displaying error H97, or h98, this generally means that the invertor(power supply Panasonic part number: Z606YM300BP,) is not functioning. The magnetron may also be faulty.

Here is some more information about the part. The microwave may also have a faulty magnetron. If you are unsure, then you should get someone to look at the unit for you before you go buying parts.

BEWARE... VOLTAGES INSIDE MICROWAVES CAN KILL

Panasonic part number: Z606YM300BP, supersedes all previous versions of the inverter used with the 2M261-M32J This Inverter is now available at a lower cost, it used to be £60.00 plus VAT and delivery trade price.
This inverter is fitted to many of the more recent Panasonic inverter type microwaves such as the NNC596S .Some microwaves such as Bosch and Siemens also use this inverter as they are rebranded Panasonic ovens. These ovens are upmarket models, some include advanced functions such as steaming and are normally well worth repairing.
The inverter as fitted to earlier ovens with the 2M236-M42 and 2M236-M1 is also available.

An inverter microwave oven is one without a high voltage transformer You will know you have one as it is not extremely heavy at one end. This type of microwave uses a high power DC converter, called an inverter, to produce the high voltage and filament voltage required by the magnetron.
If you purchase this item for replacement in your microwave then we recommend that you do this only if you are qualified and aware of the dangers of tampering with electrical equipment.
Failure of the magnetron is common and at times the inverter can fail as well. Sometimes the inverter fails on it's own. If your microwave blows the 10 amp mains input fuse as the cooking cycle starts then you probably need a new inverter. An instruction sheet with basic guidelines on fitting will be provided but please do not purchase this item unless you are confident about fitting it. We only accept returns if the inverter supplied is defective which is extremely unlikely.
If you have one of these ovens that is not cooking then it is worthwhile looking at the magnetron. It often shows signs of distress through overheating.

As well as the inverter failing it is also possible you could also have a defective magnetron,

Panasonic NN-SD277. Almost 3 years old. We pressed start, it went for about a second (may have made a sparking sound) and then it just lost all power. There is still power to microwave but no lights are...

We also have this same microwave. It is less than 3 years old. We've had nothing but problems since we purchased it. In November 2010, the microwave made a crackling sound and then BOOM! Nothing. I have been back and forth with Panasonic. I refuse to pay for the repair on an appliance that is less than 3 years old. It's ridiculous!

Anyway, the problem t is an issue with their inverters. Google it and you will find page after page of the same story.

H95, H97, H98 or H99 mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.

If it stops after 7 seconds, it likely has a problem with the inverter.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

You can find an authorized Panasonic servicer here.

I bought my microwave oven in late june. I barely use it, today 09/05/2010 I went to cook popcorn in my oven and the glass plate broke in half. I purchased the microwave from Walmart in the Brunswick,...

I'm not sure why they would have sent you here, but, when it comes to microwave plates, they can often reach an expensive price when purchasing on their own, if and when you can find somewhere that sells them.
My suggestion is keep an eye out for any dis-carded microwaves that may have glass plates in them still or to contact the manufacterer to purchase a new plate, but be prepared to be met with a high cost
Sorry for the bad news. Good luck.

Dacor Microwave/Conv Oven DCM24S

Placing the bag on an inverted glass bowl or pyrex casserole dish worked!!!!!  For 2 years, I have cursed my Dacor microwave for its inability to make popcorn (burns a hole in the bag, bag stays flat, almost no kernels pop, etc...)  I read the last suggestion to use the glass plate and I am now sitting with a bowl full of perfectly popped popcorn - with only 1 kernel unpopped.  The metal tray in the microwave conducts too many waves through the bag I guess.
Thanks for the solution!

Another Microwave that shuts down after 3 seconds of microwave operation

This model uses an inverter to produce high voltage. That symptom is an usually indication of a problem with the inverter. Due to the lethal voltages involved, I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models. And of course at less than 1 year, this would still be under warranty if you have your sales receipt. You should be able to locate a Panasonic-authorized servicer here: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/WhereTo/FindServicer.asp?Pass=1 I would mention the exact symptom when you call so the technician can bring a new inverter with him when he comes out to repair it. Might save you having it pulled into the shop. Good luck!
