Hp scanjet 6200c scanner recognised only as printer by pc

My hp scanjet 6200c flatbed scanner is only recognized by the pc as a printer.
i have all the right software installed.
the software comes up with the error message:
sorry scanner could not be initialized
(scanner could not be found)

What can i do?

    Check this site out. it may be that your scanner is incompatible with your windows version if you have Vista or something else.

How to scan to a PC using a HP scaner
With XP, no problem. Uninstall the scanner from the computer, and then reinstall it. It should work fine.
With later Windows (Vista or 7), I believe that your scanner does not yet have a working driver. Anyone else know of an available driver for either of these... please chime in.
