Hello,
I bought an old Amada E500 notebook , from work , and even when I hook-up the ethernet ( I have high speed internet on my home computer already ) cable I am still unable to connect to the internet.
Could it be that my ethernet card is bad ?
I am pretty clueless when it comes to notebooks , but if I'm right , I think I will need to buy a wireless card as well as another ethernet card.
Any suggest on other things I might need to buy for my notebook to work properly ?
If you already have an ethernet card installed in the laptop, then it should be fine. did you try rebooting the modem that you are hooking the laptop to? Sometimes with different ISPs that is one of the major issues.

Hi NoMamasTomas...
Yes your computer can have wireless as long as you have a wireless modem hooked up to your main computer
A wireless card that will work for your Windows Me machine is made by SMC.
I am sure there are others that will work in your computer also but I have this type sitting on my desk at this very moment.
So I will give you the website to look at a couple of ones.
Please take time to rate me
Hello Lan,
the best way to connect to your network would be using WZC utility right in windows, to make sure this is turned on follow the link below
http://tech.ifelix.net/2007.html
After its turned on go Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center.
After entering here choose your network, if your modem has a security key (WPA, WEP, ETC..) make sure to enter that correctly.
If all is well it should connect without a problem.
Hope this helps, if this doesnt work comment and i will give further assistance
I ran into this with my home network and my old g3 ibook needed the older speed wifi to connect. I found my old wifi router, hooked an ethernet cable to the newer router (in a regular ethernet port) and connected the other end to the internet port on the old one... they linked and worked fine to provide wifi for the old G3's ..
If you have high speed internet go to your ISP webpage and do a speed test. If You are paying for say like 10 MEGS and are only pulling 1.2 Megs. It probably is your modem. Your speed will slow down to approx 7.5 behind a router. Also Your ethernet cable might need replacing. might also might try resetting your router. disconnect all power even the cable comming in and reset everything. Hope that helps.
hi, any laptop has the capability to use wireless connection, if you connect to that laptop a compatible wireless card and install its drivers( the cd/dvd that comes with the wireless card)
to check if this card is ok or not try using it on some other laptop see if it works there and gets the networks
take it back to the place that you bought it. Sounds like you are having a issue with your motherboard.. If you can take it back i highly recommend it. A replacement motherboard could cost a high price depending on what computer you own.
680 Error is No Dial Tone, Make sure you are trying to connect with a Ethernet port, DSL will need a Modem, In between the computer and Phone jack (Sorry if im being too basic, but i want to make sure we cover EVERYTHING) Go in to the connections and try using the Ethernet adapter. Let me know where that gets ya
There are 3 ways to connect to the internet. Using a modem with a phone line, an ethernet cable that is hooked up to a high speed internet connection or using wireless. If the laptop does not have a modem, it may have wireless or an ethernet port. Ethernet is slightly larger than a phone jack. If there is wireless there should be a button to turn it on and off somewhere along the top of the laptop where the keyboard is. You could also put get type of those connections on a PCMCIA card which fits into the credit card like slots on the side.
