Have you tried a reset? You might have to open up the case (carefuly, i broke the cables by accident on mine doing that)and wiggle the cables around, As they could have shaken lose over time. if all that fails, you might have to do a hard reset or re-instal the software.

About 1/2 of he time now, my Zire 31 has problems

Either the digitizer is failing or you have a protective screen on it.

I'm not sur eif Palm is still supporting these of if they have changed policies. It used to be a set fee say $85 to fix or echange. If they still do this. then I would find out if they apply the $25 against the repair fee. You can also send it in to several pda repair places who wil fix it for a reasonable fee.

A Tx or Lifedrive is a better palm but can be worth much more. You can find those used all over and may be the way to go to upgrade if you want to save a few $

My Palm Zire 72 tumbled into two inches of water.

It seems that unfortunately you PDA is damaged and needs professional repair service, or just forget about it and buy another one.

Water causes to have corrosion and shorts in electronic devices, even if is dried internally (residues cause the shorts), which is an quemical effect of have water (or moisture) with copper and other metals and a voltage from the battery.

If anyway is already damaged, you may want to try in repair it yourself.

If so, you will need to open it, and remove all residues (kind of green or white dust over the components) from the copper traces, connectors and components.

If the event is recent, there is the chance you can clean it completely, but I do see that this happened a couple of months ago.

If several weeks (or months) passed, then a deep corrosion already took place in it, and is likely that the components and connections have been permanently damaged.

In order to open and repair, you will need:

1. Torx scredriver and philips screwdriver
2. Plastic pry tool to open it without leave marks or damage the PDA housing
3. 5X magnifier with light, or better if you can use a microscope, so you can review all the areas (including under the tiny electronic components) and clean them.

If you send it to repair, it will be expensive, and it may be over the cost of buy an used PDA but in good working conditions.

I mean, depending of the damage caused by the water, it may be necessary to replace one or all the major components inside the PDA (mainboard, LCD screen, speaker, camera, battery, etc).

Zire 71 screen

Two possible scenarios:

1. Loose LCD screen connector inside the pda. You will need to open it and put it right.

It requires some level of skills to open it, repair it, close it properly.

If not precautions are taken, there are two major risks:

a) Break the flat ribbon cable of the universal PalmOne port (used to synchronize it and charge it).

b) Break a tiny switch that detects when is slided the top side so the camera application turns on.

2. LCD screen is damaged. It needs replacement.

You can get in touch with local repair services for it, and request a quote for its diagnostics and repair.

If after get some quotes, you think that they are excessive, you can contact the Ebay seller Great_items_2004 to receive a lower quote for it.

No display

Hello LyMaBa

Do you have an SD card inserted in the PDA?

If so remove it and restart your PDA.

Did the problem go away. If so, please, go HERE for the Zire 71 Expansion update or HERE for the SD/SDIO update.

You can find all the manuals for the Palm Zire 71 PDA HERE.

If you don't have a SD card inserted, you might want to try performing a WARM RESET of your PDA. Youtube has a video on this process HERE.

You can find instructions HERE for performing a reset ("warm" or "hard") on your Palm PDA.

You can find other software, info, downloads, etc.
HERE for your Zire 71.

If performing a "warm" reset doesn't work, try performing a "hard" reset.

*** WARNING!!! ***
YOU WILL loose ALL of your data on the PDA by performing a "hard" reset so make sure it's data has been synchronized w/ your computer software (Palm Desktop, Microsoft Outlook, etc).
