Hi,

It might be a hardware issue however u can try the following basic troubleshooting steps .

Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit . try to move teh carriage manually .

perform a reset as well .

1
Take out the cartridges from the unit .
2
Make sure the unit is connected to the wall jack directly without any surge protector.
3
Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit ( without turning off the unit ) .
4
Now press the # and 6 key together , while holding these keys down plug in the power cord back into the unit .
5
Do not release the keys after a few seconds u will find te hp logo or bars moving across the screen .wait while the unit turns off.
6
after one minute turn on the prnter . it will go into alligment phase > let it finish .
7
after its done > try to make a copy .

Note - you can also try the Ok n cancel key combination in place of # and 6

I need to know how to remove my info from my lexmark 4270 series before I trade it in.

Hello,

1.Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.

2. Hold down the Stop/Clear button. (To the right of the Black Copy button.)

3.While keeping the button pressed down, reconnect the power cable. A message on the LCD will display MEMORY CLEARING.
Note: The Fax, Copy and Scan buttons will remain ON until the message disappears. Only the Fax button should be ON when the function is complete.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hi dear why my mfc8840d can't switch from fax function to copy and scan function

It sounds like you have some sort of printer error, you can try holding the stop button as you power up it will either tell you the error or clear it so you can copy and scan again.

Fax is received is very dark and almost unreadable

You can try using the menu to lighten the fax, but if all received faxes are dark, you may be experiencing a weak scan light. try making a copy instead of fax (which essentially is a fax printed to yourself) if also dark, its certainly your scanning imager that's failing. If that's the case I would recommend replacing the entire machine. Parts are expensive, and its a difficult to service part yourself. Also you may find that toner costs alone may pay for the replacement machine over this unit.

HP C7180 All-In-One (Fax)

Does it say Scanner Failure...?

If then try these steps mentioned bellow:

Remove all the ink cartridges from the All-In-One.
Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet.
Now move the carriage (carriage is above the place wher we install ink cartridges it is a metal part which moves in a metal bar) Too and Fro till you feel the carriage is moving smoothly.
Then insert the cartridges close the access door.
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector.
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)
Then if it prompts the ink cartridges insert ink cartidges
Now try printing a test page or make a copy

If it still makes a loud noise and the message comes up as scanner failure, then either the scanner or the scanner machanisum is bad, you may have to replace the unit

Good Luck
