Amd sempron 2800+

I have a amd sempron 2800+ processor. I want to upgrade my RAM. What will this processor support. Right now I have a DDR PC3200 (200 MHz) in slot #1 and PC2700 (166 MHz) in slot#2. These are each 256 for a total of 512. I'd like to get at least 1 gig (if not 2 gig) of RAM if necessary. I have only 2 slots. I do not have a manual and am having difficulty finding this information on the web. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Indeed the mo bo is the one that supports the ram mem ..and if you only have 2 slots on DDr ..probably the max wi8ll be 2 units of 512M ram DDr on 333 or 400 MH ( 3200) a total of 1 G ...it will speed up the demn thing ...but ya will never make more then a calling device or ...a browsing tool out of it ...it's kinda out dated..

Very well you can upgrade system RAM. By changing existing one. Motherboard needs support the RAM not your processor. Check the Motherboard supporting frequency for RAM to work free from problem.

I can install windows 8 on MY pc?? cpu:amd sempron

I don't think you can run Windows 8 on your system.
What Microsoft say are the minimum requirements for a system to run Windows 8 can be found here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/system-requirements
First, the processor needs to have certain features - SSE2, NX and PAE which I don't think the Sempron 3000+ has; and you be able to run only the 32-bit version if could run that because you don't have enough RAM, and your processor is a 32-bit processor.
Secondly, the 9250 isn't up to it. It doesn't have WDDM drivers, because it's not a true Direct 9X graphics card; it not being a DirectX 9 card is enough to preclude from running Windows 6 anyway.

Your processor, RAM and graphics card might be upgradeable to be able to support a 32-bit version of W8, but that may be more expensive than buying a (new) W8 computer anyway.

Anyway that's what my brief study of the topic has lead me to believe. It's a no.

On the other hand, see these:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/amd-sempron-3000-for-windows-8/9b9c1659-63dc-4069-99fa-eb8e08040738
and
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1806278/install-windows-cpu-amd-sempron-3000-ram-512-ddr-ddr-gpu-radeon-9250.html
(found by searching the internet with "running windows 8 on a sempron 3000+")
They say "Yes".

So I think more research needs to be done. Note the second article says the system will have terrible performance.

Memory settings for ddr

http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/motherboards_d/ECS/K7AMA/

Since the Processor Front Side Bus (FSB) support is 200 or 266MegaHertz (MHz), the ram memory will be DDR Sdram at either 100Megahertz or 266MHz.

That is PC1600 and PC2100, respectively.

2GB's maximum TOTAL amount for motherboard.
1GB per ram memory slot - Maximum

If you have a Socket A (Socket 462) AMD processor with a 200MHz FSB, I suggest DDR Sdram at 100MHz. (PC1600)

AMD processor with 266MHz Front Side Bus = either PC1600, or PC2100. I would go with PC2100.

Voltage in BIOS Setup is 2.5 Volts. That is is the JEDEC standard voltage, for DDR Sdram.
Ram timings will be dependent upon what the ram memory supports.

IF you have just ONE ram memory module ('Stick'), it goes in Slot 1.
(DIMM 1)
This is the ram memory slot the Processor reads first.

http://8000.hillbillyhardware.com:8000/Reviews/ecs_945gcd-m/ecs_945gcd-m.html

"When it comes to innovative motherboards ECS is not a company that first comes to mind. Not since the days of the K7AMA that offered DDR266 and PC133 memory options for AMD's K7 line of processors has ECS released a motherboard that has filled a gapping hole in the PC hardware market space. Lets just hope that the failure rate of the 945GCD-M is nothing like the failure prone K7AMA."

Hmmmmm,

I am owning a AMD Sempron 2400+ desktop.which is having DD ram of 608mb.in 2 slots.( one 512mb and the other 128mb ).When I looked at the board, there are 2 slots only indicating DDR! &DDR2. Now I want...

DDR (or DDR1) and DDR2 modules look similar, but the keying notch is in a different place. This figure shows the two types so you can identify which you currently have:

    moz-screenshot.pngmoz-screenshot-1.pngmoz-screenshot-2.pngpgh_pa_guy_22.jpg

The type of memory used is determined by the motherboard. The markings on your board are just labels for DDR module 1 and DDR module 2; you will need to check the picture to determine what type memory you need to purchase. I suspect you will need DDR1, since DDR2 is a more recent type. A Sempron system will probably be an older board.

You can find specifications for the type and amount of RAM the motherboard will support at the manufacturer's website. If the computer is a consumer brand such as HP or Dell, go to their website and follow the links to the support and downloads page. If this is a custom or home-built computer, you can get information from the motherboard maker's site.

I've AMD sempron 2400 1.66 ghz processor with 256mb RAM, can in upgrade it to 1GB Ram?

yes without any doubt the ram you should need is DDR 1 or DDR 333mhz or 400mhz either one should do and probably can be found very cheap on ebay. if you really only want 1gb probably best to have 2x512mb sticks as some motherboards didnt like the 1GB modules and needed to be flashed. but if your mainboard is pretty good you will probably find that it can take 2gb

I would like to find the spec manual and what cpu slot it has.

    Hi there,
I tried to get the exact link, but the website will not allow it.

Go to this page, and put in your model number, and you will find it really easy.

    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

This board is a socket A for AMD processors.

You will need adobe reader to get this manual.

Please post the model number of you're Gigabyte board. This is key in order to answer you're question. The model number can be found on the board, if not written in bold white lettering on the board it will be found on one of the PCI (white) slots.
