FIXED IT - It's the screws on the bottom of the jar assembly, where the blades are attached. There are 4 Torx screws - star-shaped - and when these come loose over time the Blender will start to operate only sometimes. Eventually it will be never.
Tighten these four screws and everything will be fine!
Fasteners can become less strong over time if they are vibrated. Giving the four star-shaped screws under the blending jar a turn with the right tools fixed the problem with my blender going off and slope on.

As long as you know the plug still had power. Make sure it wasn't a GFI that was tripped. Something inside the unit must have either lost contact or burned up. Did you smell anything burning electrically?
