Chances are the print cartridge is bad. If you insert it and fails to see that cartridge, it maybe defective - sometime they just go bad. If you need more help, reply with the Make/Model info as well as the details around the printer (how long you have had it, if you tried other cartridges, etc.) Hope this helps...

When I print I get three grey lines across the paper.

Dear djmeyhem01,

Here are some solutions that might help you with your problem:
-Try the 'clean cardridge' option. This will clean the tubes of the cardridges.
-Check if the settings on the printer and on the PC/Mac are the same. Especially check the settings for printing. (there probably is some sort of option where you can check on printing tearing or lines in the printing.)
-Check cardridges. (are they empty? are they connected right?)
-Check if the software/hardware is working properly. If not, try a reinstall or a factory reset.

I hope this will help you in solving your problem!
with kind regards,

Replacement ink cartridge needs to be installed. Cannot locate cartridge housing.

These instructions are for color or black cardridges. Turn on the printer by pressing the power button. Flip down the front access door by grasping it on the upper right corner (just under the scanning bed) and pulling it down toward you. the cardridges will automaticly move to the right give you access to them. Press down on the top of the ink cartridge. This will release the cartridge. Slide it forward and out of the machine. Peel off the cover from the ink cardridge. This is a pink piece of plastic /tape like lift-off tab. Lift it up and off the cartridge.

Put the new cartridge inside of your Officejet J4580 by inserting it, label facing upward, into the open slot. Press it back into the unit and down lightly. You will hear it click into place. Close the access door. Wait for the alignment process to complete that will most likely require you to print a alignment page and place it in the scanner bed then press "OK".

I think thats about it

All toner cardridges are at least 1/2 full but

in the printer menu, scroll to Special Pages and print a Config page, Menu Map and also the Test Pages. If these appear to print colour properly the problem may be in the driver. Check the quality tab in the preferences is not set to B/W. If the problem still appears to be with the printer after printing the internal pages then recheck after restarting the printer.

Empty colour cardridge, cant print black and white

Hi!

I'm afraid that most printers nowadays simply refuse to print unless you have ink in BOTH cartridges. No workaround. At least with an
Epson you have the possiblily of buying much less expensive generic refills...If you do this always try and find reviews of the brand of refills...caveat emptor! (buyer beware)

Sorry..

Does the printer attempt to print? Did you replace the black or colored ink? If it was the black ink will it print in color?
If it prints in color, check the black ink cartridge for tape residue on the gold contacts. The blue tape will sometimes leave the adhesive on the cartridge and not the tape. It cleans off easy with a soft cloth.
