I have a HP Photosmart 8250, I do not use it that often , now I find that the ink cartridges are not empty but will not allow me to print because the cartridge are date expired .
I have followed the instructions displayed on the lcd screen, it worked the first time but now have no effect
Any suggestions would be appreciated , thanks.
I had the same issue with my Photosmart so I checked the HP web site and they said that some cartridges (including HP02) expire but you can override. Try opening the top of the printer and undoing the cartridge latch. Then relatch it and close the top. Worked for me (at least for now)

i was told to junk it. i have the same problem. it is nice of hp to let you spend the money on the ink. after all that money and go figure the same problem. thank you hp.
You may not be able to use generic cartridges with your printer.Check your printer documentation.Check to see if you removed the tape that covers the small hole on the cartridge.
Usually, ink cartridges that are out of code (expired) can still work well. The ink can begin to evaporate or separate and can ruin your printer depending on what type you have. SOme cartridges come with the print heads attached, so they may clog or fail sooner, but will nto damage your printer. Best course of action is to trade in unopened packages to the manufacturer for new cartridges - some will take them back without a receipt, and some will not.

I had same problem, and i solved it. I opened my hp 8250 and removed it`s battery. It is located on left side of the printer, on the main board. You need to remove plastic covers , and then remove 3 screws holding board. You can move board just enough to get damn battery out of there. Now it works perfect! I can send you some piccs if you need help. Regards Sasa
