This particular model don't have a built in wireless card on it , it only has a Integrated Network Card for wired connection .

So if you want to make this laptop work wireless you need to get a wireless adapter like this adapter from Linksys WPC54G or WUSB54GC so this laptop can be use wirelessly.

How can i turn on wireless adapter on the IBM thinkpad R40 laptop.I can't see the wireless adapter switch.......the drivers are already installed successfully. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

the r40 has no hardware switch. it has a software switch. you must first determine what type of wifi card if any is installed. most of the stock cards are intel or cisco and the ibm support site has the software used to control them. sometimes, thru the network connections, windows can take control if the drivers are installed

Wifi on ibm thinkpad t30

The wireless driver may got corrupted or uninstalled.
Go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Click on Network Adapters and if the wireless card is listed click on it to see if it is working and enabled. If not then reinstall the wireless driver.

Ibm thinkpad r40 windows xp-pro after formatting and re-installing the system, all updates and SPs downloaded and installed, the wireless "disappeared"! the radio led wouldn't lit, in the connection list...

if drivers installed device is looking for wifi manager which is the software package for wifi.
you can goto control panel open administrative tools select sevices and scroll to wireless zero config and press start.
this will then use windows settings.done
