My monitor went dead, There seems to be power but know image

10 is 1 years old today.
so BIOS prompts at all, that is not a good sign.
Take out the huge battery first, does not run on on AC only power pack, this is step1 of 12 on any dead Laptop.
step2 : is this:
the RTC coin cell battery is not good this old. (now or soon)
it's a $1 part.

do the long hard power reset test yet?

There are three possible cause why your monitor went black and start working..

1. If your monitor is dead set.. no reaction or lights turn on after power on.. then it needs to check if there is blown capacitor in its power supply section..

2. The high voltage ballast transformer of the backlight inverter is burned - it needs to be replaced so that it will not have a direct effect on the power supply section of the monitor.

3. The backlight inverters are all busted - the backlight was located at the upper and lower back edge of the monitor.. If these lights are busted then all that will be seen in your monitor is black screen.. It will need to be replaced so that image display will come out from your screen..

These 3 reason and its solutions can only be done by yourself if you have the knowledge, proper skills and the right tools to open the back cover of the monitor and replace the problem parts....

Otherwise, bring your monitor to a credible technician and if there is warranty,, avail of this...

Problem with the Power supply.

try booting into safe mode. press F8 while the computer is booting. see if everything stays normal. It should tell you that it booted into safe mode. Once there, change the resolution or the frequency of the display(also known as the refresh rate) by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties. Once there, click the tab all the way to the right, it should give you color quality options and resolution options. At the bottom, there should be an advanced tab. Depending on our video card this menu can be different from others. Look in that new window for and option to change the refresh rate or the frequency. The value will be in xxx hertz. try setting it to 60 hertz.

It seems it is the power suply, because some componets inside make that noise that you said.
Or It may be the power cord so be sure the 120 volts are passing some time it can be break in the base rear the monitor.
The probelm is that I don't now where you can get the parts taht you need for your monitor.

there is a key on the keyboard which controls brightness. on mine it is the second key on the right, of the bottom row. it has a small sun on it. Press this key at the same time as the function key (on mine, bottom row, second from the left, blue key marked Fn) - and the monitor will brighten up.

Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. Power on both CPU and monitor. After it went blank, you have to check that you can see the image on the screen by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. Like mine, I can see window image using flashlight and check lamps inside. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so.

The power supply within the monitor has probably expired. HP doesn't do spare parts for their TFT monitors as they are Full Unit Replacement items (if in warranty).

If you have the pc on and the monitor light stays green, take a flashlight to the screen. If you can see the images while shining the flashlight into the screen, they will be hard to see but they will be viewable, then its most likely the back light. The vx900 takes 4 bulbs and they are about $12 US each. Anyone who knows how to solder should be able to replace them.
