Try to use the auto-adjust option and reset the monitor to its factory settings. if this does not help, try to replace the video cable and test it on another computer if possible. If you get the same results, it would mean, the monitor will need to be replaced. you may also disconnect the video cable from it and power it on. this would make the monitor show either solid colors or coloured bars. if you experience the same thing during the monitor test, you can be assured that the monitor needs to be replaced. If it is still in warranty, you may proceed to get in touch with Dell for it

How to change the 'Contrast' and 'Brightness' on the monitor screen

Bootup your computer and display your Windows Desktop. Make sure yourmonitor stays on for at least half an hour before you begin, so that itis properly warmed up.

Seta pure black image on the monitor so you can adjust the brightness. Toget a pure black image, do the following: Choose Start, then ControlPanel, then Display. This will open the Display Properties dialog box.Click the down arrow next to the representation of the desktop color inthe Color field. Choose black from the color palette, then click OK.

Maximizethe Brightness control on your monitor, then slowly reduce it until theblack of the image perfectly matches the black at the edge of thephysical screen. This puts the brightness at the proper setting.

Open a screen with a plain white background soyou can adjust the contrast. One of the best ways to do this is to open aword-processing document without any text in it. Gradually reduce the contrastsetting of your monitor until the white area of the screen begins to lookslightly gray or off-white. Then gradually increase the contrast until thewhite area on your monitor is pure white. This will give you the proper whitebalance. Now you've got your monitor ready for peak performance.

Hope this may help you solve your problem.

How to i fix the scree, it has gone all black?

Either you need to replace the batteries or lower the contrast. You do that by pushing the 2nd key, then pushing on the down arrow. Keep repeating until you can see a number in the top left of the screen signifying the contrast level.

Screen is mainly blank except for one faint line. Have put new batts in and checked for any dampness on inside, every thing looks good. Still nothing on screen.

It is possible that the screen contrast is too light.
To adjust the screen contrast follow the procedure:
  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and Hold the UpArrow key to darken or DownArrow to lighten. Keep pressing until contrast is adequate.

When I turn the calculator on, I get a black screen. It won't go away.

Most likely the screen contrast is too high. Try to lighten screen
Press [2nd] key and release it
Press and Hold [DownArrow] until screen lightens to your liking.

As you keep pressing DownArrow, the top right corner shows a number that decreases as the screen lightens.
