Last evening (Saturday, May 24,2008), we renewed our Internet Security for another year (ours expires the last of May 2008 (or the first of June 2008).......we supposedly completed the downloading & everything, except for "entering the Subscription Key/Renewal Code for our specific product" (as stated in Symantec's instructions). Our Subscription Key/Renewal Code is as follows:

We were never able to reach any of the links provided to enter this Code number.

As far as I am aware most Norton subscriptions last for one year. Have you tried contacting Norton to ask about the problem?
I have only heard of such a short subscription when the software is given away as part of a free offer with a new PC but if you have renewed a previous subscription it would normally be for one year.
Most of the Norton antivirus comes with one year subscription. date u mentioned here seems like more then 1 year old. That's why it says expired
If you dont want to spend any more money on antivirus then uninstall this one and download AVG from this site. this is really good antivirus for free and good for ever.

try to enter the old serial number or reg key if it doesnt work then u go look for a crack or a back door.
search in http://crackhell.com/ if ud find the crack or serial for it
