My MSNTV2 receiver will not connect to the modem. I have exausted all support with MSN support staff. The modem is working and I have connection to my laptop. However, everytime I try to connect with the MSNTV2 I either get "cannot connect to broadband" or "there is an IP address error." We have gone through the settings and tried everything (with msn support staff.) When you run diagnostics on the connection it give a "2" result. We have done "find connection manually" and "automatacally detect" to no result. I have a steady green and a flashing amber light at the ethernet port and we have tried to replace the cable attaching the receiver to the modem. Both the support staff member and I agree the problem is NOT the modem since it has connection and I can get online with my laptop. I believe the receiver has a malfunction, however, I do not want to look for a replacement until I feel confident there is no other option. The receivers are expensive to replace and I don't want to find one, buy it, just to find out that I still have the same problem. Also, the support staff at MSNTV aren't the brightest. I have had a few complication from them in trying to fix the problem due to the random person I get when I call. I spent hours on the phone with Verizon, our provider, to get assistance with what MSNTV told us to do (reset the modem) only to find out when I call MSN back after completing their request that I was given the wrong advise from the previous tech. I'm not convinced they know what they're doing. Either way, do you have any other advice or ideas what could be wrong? The system use to work OK, then it started to sometimes being able to connect and sometimes not (after they would do system updates on their end), to now not being able to connect at all. Anything you could give would be greatley appreciated.

SOURCE: Can't get modem to work if I use the USB connection

Your computer is attempting to find the network connection through your LAN port. Your best bet is to reconfigure your network settings to seek its external network connection through USB, or better still, obtain a router(I personally recommend linksys wireless/basic routers due to stability), and simply use the ethernet connection through it. While this is bypassing the initial issue, it is also saving yourself a lot of hassle when it comes to retooling the PC's settings on the USB connection.

SOURCE: Ultimatetv receiver troubles

Seems that the hard drive may have died. try replacing the hard drive with a new ide hard drive that's under 120 gigs. then the front of box will have some lights flashing for awhile. It is formatting the drive when it is doing that. Once done flashing you will get back to the webtv screen. It should then call up the webtv toll free number and then from there call up your local office. it should download over a hundred or so files to reprogram the missing guide and dvr software. once it reboots the tv funcations should return . It should act the same when you have a power outage ie downloading the latest guide info. you should have the tv back at this point. If you have problems still with missing channels or says you have not paid for programming , then you need to call directv. now it also have more disk space if you were using the orginal 40 gig hard drive , your new 120 gig should be about 100-110 hrs of worth of recordings. Don't bother with a bigger drive it will not format anything higher than a 120 gig drive. good luck if you still have it

SOURCE: Bridge RCA Thomson DCM315R

Hi,

Usually cable providers provide public ip directly to your company ( already bridged ). so no need to configure your modem to bridge.
- Connect the computer directly to the modem and if possible, let me know the ip address of your PC, So we can find the modem already bridged.
- If its already bridged, then Open the ports on your Router ( port number : 3389 for TCP ) or else you may try DMZ Host on your router to check whether it works.

Note:
DMZ ( Demilitarize Zone ) host which opens all ports on your network and shows ur computer to the outside Network which is not really secured one. but you can try it for testing purpose whether it let you to use remote desktop.

Hope this will help you

SOURCE: RCA DCM425 modem ethernet connection won't work

In short, you have to either

  1. renew your ip on Computer 1, or
  2. hard-reboot your cable modem and then reboot or renew your ip on Computer 1.
Details below.

The modem is communicating with the servers at your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to give your computers an IP address. The ISP may have your modem set up to be issued only one IP address. Thus using both USB and Ethernet could be restricted by your ISP.

The IP address is most likely a dynamic IP that expires after a few days or weeks, unless you bought a business account that has a static IP (which is used for hosting permanent websites).

When a computer is not communicating with a Cable Modem or you shift between the connections on the modem, it may be necessary to re-establish configurations. The following can be steps to reset all components to re-establish configurations:
  1. Do a hard-reset on the modem. On the back of the modem is a reset pinhole. If you press the button quickly, this can soft-reset the modem, just restarting the modem. If you press the button and hold it for more than 10 seconds, this can hard-reset the modem, thus resetting and re-establishing configuration with the ISP servers.
  2. Restart the computer or at the command prompt (Start | Run | Cmd | Enter) issue two commands ... "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew". This will release your IP and request a new one from your ISP.
These steps are required when adjustments occur especially when shifting between connections on the back of the modem.

I bought 15 used MSNTV2 units from a government liquidation auction with the hopes of reselling them for a profit. I failed to realize that these are password protected machines and there isnt much you can...

Ruismall is halfway there. You must hold down the MSN power button on the keyboard while typing the magic number 32768. Wait a while until the TV screen goes blank, then power up again. I had to power up twice, but I did finally get the "Welcome to MSN" screen.

Msntv2 does not work on ebay. it powers off everytime i do a search on ebay

Go to www.skweezer.com. Once there, type in www.ebay.com. It will work. Save your ebay favorite searches as your regular favorites, even though they are going through skweezer. At the bottom of each Skweezer page, there is a place to click to go to a chosen page without the skweezer filter. This will work to go to an Ebay item listing without crashing, if you then wish to do so. Skweezer takes a little getting used to, since the pages have a compressed format, but it will do the job on Ebay and other sites MSNTV2 has a problem with. These are ever-increasing, as the good folks at Microsoft fail to update the units to keep pace with changing technology.

Many websites are not loading. MSN, Microsoft, etc.

There are a few ways to get this going again.

Goto your control panel;network places;show network connections

Right click your connection, disable it, unplug the power cord from the modem itself for 10 seconds, click the reset button on it, plug it back in, enable the connection, repair.

You can also go into your command prompt.
start;programs;accessories,command prompt

type:
ipconfig

You should see 3 sets of numbers- IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. If all the numbers are zero, that's a problem!

type this next, remember to have a space before the forward slash:
ipconfig /release_all

after that

ipconfig /renew

Try connecting and let me know what happens
